Dr. Mubarik Ali is a graduate from the University of the Philippines at Los Baños. He has vast experience of working for agriculture and rural development in South and Southeast Asian countries. He is an expert on food security, agriculture productivity, diversification, value-chain analyses, agriculture regulations and peri-urban agriculture. Currently, Dr. Ali is a freelance consultant. In a consultancy with World Bank, he has analyzed the Punjab and Sindh Agriculture Innovation System. He wrote a Cluster-Development Based Agriculture Transformation Plan for the Planning Commission of Pakistan.
Before this, he has served as Member (Food Security and Climate Change) of the Planning Commission of Pakistan where he acted as an advisor on food security issues to the Minister of Planning, Development and Reforms. He has worked as CEO of Punjab Agriculture Research Board (PARB) during 2007-13 and has provided vision and strategic direction to agricultural research system in the Punjab.
He has also worked as Senior Economist in the World Vegetable Center in Taiwan, Visiting Scientists in International Rice Research Institute in Manila, Research Fellow in International Food Policy Research institute and Staff Economist in USAID Islamabad. His research on mungbean won the presidential award from the Government of Taiwan. He has travelled 42 countries in relation to his research and development work and participated over 100 high-level meetings. Dr. Ali has 35 referred journal articles, five edited books, 50 technical papers, book chapters, and workshop papers to his credit.
