00:04 As the planet continues to get hotter and hotter,
00:06 we need to think of new and innovative ways
00:08 of cooling our buildings.
00:09 As air conditioner usage, which is a significant contributor
00:12 to climate change, is expected to grow by 90%
00:15 in the next 30 years, according to a University of Birmingham
00:18 study.
00:19 But now scientists at Purdue University
00:21 say they've developed a super white paint that
00:23 can not only keep buildings cooler in direct sunlight,
00:26 but can also keep its surface more than 3 degrees
00:28 Fahrenheit lower than the surrounding air.
00:30 Right now, heat reflective paints
00:32 are pretty good, reflecting around 80% to 90% of heat
00:35 energy from the sun.
00:36 But this new acrylic paint made using calcium carbonate
00:38 can reportedly reflect 95.5%.
00:42 Even better, the paint is cheaper
00:43 and can be applied thinner than conventional reflectives
00:46 as well.
00:46 They even estimate that the paint
00:47 will save homeowners money, around $50 per month
00:50 on cooling costs.
00:51 The only downside?
00:52 You would better like white.
