00:02 Hi, so we're talking today about release,
00:05 about releasing the golf club.
00:07 What is releasing the golf club?
00:09 And how can I get into the positions
00:11 that we see these tour players deliver
00:14 day in, day out on the TV?
00:16 So I try and understand this, what is release?
00:19 For me, it's this understanding of,
00:20 I'm trying to generate as much power as I can
00:24 in my body throughout my swing,
00:25 and I'm trying to release it at the correct point
00:28 to ensure that power goes through my body,
00:30 through the club, and into the ball.
00:33 Giving a good release pattern is actually,
00:37 what I see daily in the teaching room
00:39 is actually when I get to the top here,
00:41 players actually start to release either too early,
00:44 they have this casting kind of effect,
00:46 or they actually get to impact,
00:49 body's frozen, it hasn't moved,
00:51 and actually the club kind of breaks down,
00:53 you get this scooping kind of effect,
00:56 or you get this kind of chicken wing.
00:59 What we like to see is actually,
01:00 I like to see, if I was to imagine there's a tee,
01:02 or I put a tee just down in front here,
01:05 I want that club to be just past the ball,
01:07 pointing at that tee, I like to think of that club head
01:11 the furthest point away from my body at this position.
01:14 I like to have my chest open, my hips open,
01:18 and everything's pointing at that tee.
01:20 So a lovely little drill you can do,
01:22 bear in mind I just said it's about body rotation as well,
01:25 to allow that release to kind of happen naturally,
01:27 is to let's set the body in a good position first.
01:31 So a lovely little drill that you can do,
01:33 is set up, and actually I'm gonna put you
01:35 in impact position.
01:36 So I'm gonna want your hips to be rotated,
01:39 your chest to be rotated,
01:41 and I like your hands to be ahead of the golf ball,
01:44 so your hands are in front of the golf ball
01:46 in this position.
01:47 What I want you to do in this drill
01:49 is actually take the club back,
01:51 so the lead arm is parallel,
01:53 and I want you to feel that the lower body's gonna turn,
01:55 it's gonna pull you back to that impact position,
01:58 and just past once we hit a good checkpoint
02:01 is my arms are together,
02:02 and that club is pointing at that tee.
02:05 So, if we can put it all together,
02:07 hopefully the shot looks like this.
