00:00 The first two days of the Pistons and Manibelas stopped.
00:07 The new consolidation deadline is two weeks ahead.
00:12 How are the commuters and traffic?
00:15 From East Avenue, Quezon City, live.
00:18 This is Joseph Moro. Joseph?
00:24 The Pistons and Manibelas have just started protesting.
00:30 A while ago, before we arrived, they responded to the Pistons and Manibelas
00:34 here at the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, or LTFRB,
00:38 here in East Avenue, Quezon City, as part of the consolidation of the PUV modernization program.
00:46 They were able to block the traffic on East Avenue.
00:48 They also held their program here and the police blocked the northbound and southbound lanes of East Avenue.
00:56 They were not allowed to go straight ahead.
00:58 Before this, the two groups only started protesting in UP Diliman.
01:02 Here is my report.
01:16 Outside UP Diliman Campus, the protesters against the PUV modernization
01:21 were blocked by the police.
01:23 After the response, some jeeps forced to pass by the protesters.
01:28 At one point, the protesters also hijacked a police car
01:32 until some of them passed the police line.
01:34 Block it first so that it won't be saved.
01:42 But what did you do? How did you do it?
01:45 I'll be heading home.
01:47 At this time, the jeeps that were blocking the protest
01:52 were accompanied by the Pistons and Manibelas.
01:55 The ordinary commuters here at Commonwealth Avenue,
02:00 some of them were not able to avoid getting angry
02:03 because of the riots that happened here at Commonwealth Avenue.
02:06 Remember, this is for our internet.
02:09 It's a big sin.
02:12 Why?
02:13 Because we are children.
02:15 It's too hot here.
02:17 In the end, all the protesters were released
02:19 after their first two days of protest.
02:22 Although some of them were in Metro Manila,
02:25 many did not join the protest.
02:26 Before May 1, let's hope that there will be more protests.
02:31 Earlier this morning, in Philkoa, Quezon City,
02:34 the jeeps waiting for the sun set were in line.
02:37 It's hard, sir.
02:38 Why?
02:39 It's hard.
02:40 Because it looks like there are a lot of people.
02:42 People are gathering to go to their work
02:45 but some jeeps still went in line.
02:47 They will go back to their work.
02:50 In Manila, some also went in line.
02:52 It's normal.
02:54 Although some went in line,
02:56 they did not join the consolidation of the traditional jeeps.
02:59 It's harder to travel, especially if we can't see each other.
03:02 Because we can't reach the quota they want.
03:06 Some jeepney drivers also picked up in Cebu City,
03:09 although they also went back in line afterwards.
03:11 We can't stop those who still want to earn
03:17 and also serve.
03:19 The deadline for the consolidation of the traditional jeepneys
03:22 has been extended several times.
03:24 That's why the government said that the deadline is the last one, April 30,
03:27 and it will not be extended
03:29 for the many jeepney drivers who are waiting here in the Congress
03:32 that they are hoping for.
03:33 They said that they have a practice,
03:35 that only the Congress can recover.
03:37 That's why they will continue their trip on May 1
03:39 even if they are not consolidated.
03:40 The deadline for our application will be extended.
03:43 We will not allow that.
03:44 We will give them a show cause
03:46 so that they can find out their reasons
03:50 why they did not join the government's program.
03:54 But on the first day,
03:56 if they don't have any papers showing that they are consolidated
04:01 that the LTFRB initiated,
04:04 we can immediately apprehend them.
04:06 According to the LTFRB, until this afternoon,
04:10 there was almost no effect on the commuters
04:12 so they don't need to deploy free vehicles.
04:15 This is an additional requirement for the commuters
04:18 who are consolidated jeepneys.
04:20 That's 77% nationwide and 52% in Metro Manila.
04:24 If the consolidated ones are enough,
04:27 why do we need to suspend the classes?
04:30 Why do we need to submit and give free vehicles?
04:33 That's why.
04:34 The LTFRB has a requirement for the augmentation of free vehicles
04:40 as a preparation if it is needed.
04:42 But until this afternoon,
04:44 the free vehicles were not needed.
04:46 Meanwhile, Mel,
04:47 just a while ago, the northbound lane of East Avenue was opened
04:52 because the group of Pistons and Manibelas
04:55 protested their protest here in the LTFRB
04:57 and they will push there to Manila, Mel.
05:01 Thank you very much, Joseph Mono.
