00:03 Hey, what's up?
00:11 It's Paul here from Guitar World,
00:12 and today we're gonna be checking out
00:13 a standout electric from Cort Guitars.
00:16 The Cort G290FAT2.
00:19 Let's check it out.
00:20 (electric guitar music)
00:29 Whether you know it or not,
00:31 Cort has made countless guitars for other manufacturers,
00:33 yet their namesake instruments have largely been overlooked.
00:37 Not anymore.
00:38 Tapping into key features and ergonomic designs,
00:41 Cort seems intent on overshadowing its competitors
00:44 with its own models that are more
00:46 than just a sum of their parts.
00:48 And once you pick up this Cort G290FAT2,
00:51 you'll know right away this is a serious
00:54 and worthy electric that should be on your radar.
00:56 What's cool is the offset body feels snug,
00:59 pressed against you, with a generous belly carve
01:01 and soft forearm contour
01:03 that provides hours of playing comfort.
01:06 But it's impossible not to notice
01:07 the top-notch componentry and woods on this guitar.
01:10 Everything about the Cort G290FAT2 appears elevated.
01:14 (electric guitar music)
01:18 This guitar features an older body
01:25 with a gorgeous flame maple top
01:28 in trans black bursts, what you see here.
01:31 There's also antique violin bursts and bright blue bursts,
01:34 and it also has a one-ply white bonding.
01:37 It also comes with a roasted maple neck and fretboard.
01:41 Though it sounds like a misnomer,
01:43 the Ergo V neck profile is not a V-shaped neck,
01:47 but rather a palm-filling profile
01:48 that's closer to a fuller 60C shape
01:52 with a soft satin finish on the back of the neck.
01:55 The neck also sports glow-in-the-dark
01:57 aluminum side dots and easy-to-burn-on
02:00 12 to 15 3/4 inch compound radius fretboard
02:05 with 22 immaculately dressed frets.
02:09 There's also a Grav-Tek black Tusk nut,
02:11 Cort staggered locking tuners,
02:13 and an accessible Spoke nut hot rod truss rod wheel.
02:17 The G290FAT2's articulate and detailed tones
02:20 come courtesy of the Voice Tone VTH-77
02:23 direct-mount pickups in brushed nickel
02:26 that are merged with a custom pickup wiring
02:28 to the five-way switch that offers single-coil sparkle
02:31 in the second and fourth positions
02:33 and full-body humbucker roar in the other positions.
02:37 And rounding out the guitar is Cort's smooth-traveling
02:39 and floating stainless steel CFA3 tremolo bridge
02:43 mounted over a recessed cavity.
02:45 Let's start with the clean channel.
02:51 I'll move over to crunchier channels
02:53 and lead channels as well.
02:55 But what I love about the guitar is that it cleans up
02:58 and it retains its clarity even when I roll down the volume.
03:01 And you'll hear it between the notch positions
03:04 and even the full humbucker positions.
03:06 Let's take a listen.
