Today, AD is welcomed by Emma Roberts to tour her charming Los Angeles home. When The American Horror Story star and her son moved into their new home, she enlisted AD100’s Pierce & Ward to work their magic on the space. Rich florals and luxurious velvets pair with vintage furniture creating a cozy environment for Roberts to kick back and relax. Roberts was excited at the idea of making her very own grown-up dollhouse and with an extensive doll collection, her home has become just that. Ready for a new chapter in her new home, Roberts couldn’t be happier with how the space turned out. “I have a picture of the day we moved in,” Roberts says, smiling. “I’m holding him and it was the most sunny California day, and we were in front of the blue door of our new house. I just remember feeling like we are exactly where we need to be.”See more of Emma Roberts's LA home hereShop pieces inspired by Emma Roberts's LA home:https://www.architecturaldigest.com/shopping/emma-roberts-open-doorWhen you buy something through our retail links, we earn an affiliate commission.

00:01 Hey, AD.
00:02 I'm Emma Roberts.
00:04 Come on in and check out my house.
00:05 [upbeat music]
00:08 We are in the living room.
00:21 What I love about this room is that
00:23 there's tons of new stuff,
00:25 but also we've reused a lot of stuff from another house.
00:28 Emily and Louisa, Pearson Ward,
00:29 I told them basically to just do their magic.
00:33 But what I love about this house is
00:35 it speaks for itself where it is like a grownup doll house.
00:38 It's very storybook.
00:40 And when we were moving in, it was just me and my son.
00:43 And so I was just like,
00:44 I want this to be our house that is just our style
00:48 and filled with our memories and our love.
00:51 This room really gets used when people are over
00:53 or if it's the holidays,
00:55 things get moved around for a Christmas tree over there.
00:58 But I just love to actually sit here and read on this couch.
01:00 This is kind of like my quiet room.
01:02 The fireplace used to be like mirrored and kind of foggy.
01:06 And I thought it was chic until somebody told me it wasn't.
01:09 And I immediately was like, we need to fix this fireplace.
01:12 And so they came up with the idea
01:13 of matching the chairs to the fireplace
01:15 and also tying in the stripe on the couch.
01:18 So I feel like there can never be enough stripes
01:20 or fringe or tassels in a house,
01:22 which I know people would disagree with, but I love it.
01:26 Now we are at the bar.
01:27 They found this amazing antique bar
01:29 that I'm so obsessed with and vintage chairs, vintage bar.
01:34 It's very, very chic.
01:35 My staple drink that I make for people is pouring champagne.
01:38 So this is Daniel Day-Lewis.
01:40 I was at an Oscar party one year
01:42 and they had these on the table and I just really needed it.
01:45 And so I carried it around all night
01:47 to realize it was decor and it's empty
01:49 and I probably shouldn't have taken it.
01:51 But I really made good use of it and people love it.
01:53 It's a great conversation starter.
01:54 So hi, Daniel Day-Lewis.
01:56 [upbeat music]
01:59 Now we're moving over to my little office area
02:05 and Pearson Ward always laughs because I need a pin board.
02:09 I love an inspo board.
02:11 It's always in progress.
02:12 That's what I love about an inspiration board
02:13 is it's never done.
02:14 My favorite bookstore in the East Village,
02:15 they display the books like that
02:17 in little baggies pinned to the wall.
02:18 So a little copy from them and yeah,
02:22 just stuff that I love is on there.
02:23 And then stuff I really love is behind me.
02:25 I'm really excited to show you guys the doll wall.
02:29 [laughs]
02:30 [clears throat]
02:32 I have to move this to get optimal looks at the dolls.
02:36 Okay, so these are the Dollykins.
02:39 I'm madly obsessed with them, in love with them.
02:41 She was my first one and still my favorite,
02:44 but I do love all of them.
02:45 And then my most recent addition is Leggy Jill
02:48 and I got her for my birthday
02:50 and I was looking for Leggy Jill for over a year.
02:52 And then my boyfriend surprised me with her.
02:54 I took her out of the box, which he did not approve of.
02:57 I take my dolls out of the box,
02:59 which people get very up in arms about,
03:01 but I feel like if you're gonna collect dolls,
03:02 you may as well enjoy them.
03:04 We have Blythe, obviously she's my favorite,
03:06 my original girl.
03:08 Like she is really how I fell in love with dolls.
03:11 And then this is a fun one.
03:12 This is like drunk cowgirl Barbie.
03:15 And I heard about her and I thought
03:16 that she didn't really exist and she was a joke,
03:18 but it turns out she does exist.
03:20 And she's just amazing.
03:22 Like look at her, she's fabulous.
03:24 She's having the time of her life.
03:25 When I was younger and people would be like,
03:27 aren't you scared your dolls are gonna come to life?
03:28 I'm like, I hope that every night
03:30 that they'll come wake me up.
03:32 It would be so thrilling.
03:33 (upbeat music)
03:36 We are in the TV room
03:46 and I would say we spend the most time in here.
03:48 It is the comfiest couch, very comfy chairs, TV behind you.
03:53 And my son has his toys in that chest.
03:56 So this is where I'll watch TV,
03:58 he'll play, we'll both play.
04:00 We just, we love it in here.
04:02 You're seeing it at its absolute cleanest.
04:04 It's never, it's never looked like this before.
04:07 And then we have,
04:08 what is the start of a little Joni Mitchell shrine,
04:10 dare I say?
04:12 I love her so much.
04:13 And then we have the overflow of books over here.
04:16 Also some more dolls.
04:17 This little "Ride of Frankenstein" by Mob Graves,
04:21 who is one of my favorite artists.
04:24 This is a book I actually gave as a gift to my ex,
04:27 but then when we broke up,
04:28 I saw how much it was worth and I kept it.
04:30 I do love restoration hardware
04:33 and I've owned this light many times in many houses
04:37 and it always works in one room or the other.
04:40 This chair was my timeout chair as a kid.
04:42 It had to come with me to my houses
04:45 and now my son sits in it and loves it.
04:47 And so it just makes me kind of laugh to myself
04:49 when I think about it.
04:50 And we still call it the timeout chair.
04:52 Like my mom will be like, "Oh my God, the timeout chair."
04:55 But yeah, she's seen it all.
04:58 [upbeat music]
05:00 The kitchen was the place that at first I was like,
05:14 it needs the least amount of stuff.
05:16 And I realized that that was not true.
05:18 I would never even think to put an island here.
05:20 And when they told me, I was like, "Okay, let's do it."
05:22 And it completely changed how we live in the kitchen
05:24 'cause I'm sure it's the age old thing
05:26 where everyone's like, "Why when you have a party,
05:28 is everyone in the kitchen?"
05:29 And it's annoying, but this actually,
05:31 it makes it so it's fun to hang out in here.
05:33 I have a very fun mug collection.
05:36 I love Halloween, I love witches.
05:37 So these were a must for me.
05:40 This is for Rhodey, little cowboy.
05:44 These are from Danny Mudshop and I just,
05:48 I love them, they look like cuties.
05:49 So we have a bunch of these, these little creamers.
05:53 These are from Nikki Kehoe and I don't know,
05:55 they just bring me joy.
05:56 Love these on a little breakfast display.
05:59 Totally cute.
06:00 And then there's like random stuff that I've like collected
06:02 and can't get rid of, like this Princeton College
06:05 little cup that I never have once used,
06:08 but I just like knowing she's in there, you know?
06:11 I collect felted things.
06:13 This is by Laura Colors
06:15 and I got this from her on Instagram.
06:18 And then these are actually real cereal ads
06:21 that I found like in a bin in this junk store
06:25 on Martha's Vineyard.
06:27 And Pearson Ward framed them like this,
06:29 but I just fell so in love with the idea
06:31 of having like vintage cereal ads in the kitchen.
06:33 I thought it was super cute.
06:34 [upbeat music]
06:36 We are in Rhodes' room and when his room was finished,
06:47 I was like, wait, I want this room.
06:49 He loves nature and animals.
06:51 And so I wanted to make his room feel
06:53 like a little enchanted forest.
06:55 And they showed me this fabric first
06:58 and they didn't need to show me anything else.
06:59 Pretty much everything in here
07:01 was the first thing that they showed.
07:04 The wallpaper on the ceiling with the ducks.
07:06 'Cause I remember when I was a kid
07:07 and I had the like glow stars on the ceiling
07:10 and my mom at one point had a mural for me on the ceiling
07:12 and those memories are so seared into my brain.
07:15 As a kid, just laying in bed, looking up at the ceiling.
07:17 So I wanted to make that special for him.
07:20 And then of course, Rody has his own little library.
07:22 He loves to read, which makes me so happy.
07:26 So this was mine, as you can see, Emma, when I was little.
07:29 And this, I remember taking to the sink
07:31 to brush my teeth with.
07:32 So of course, Rody had to have one with his name on it.
07:36 And his is cool 'cause it actually comes out as blocks,
07:39 which he thinks is very fun.
07:40 I love hop along Cassidy stuff.
07:43 I think it's so cute.
07:44 One of my favorite vintage stores
07:46 called Greyford's in Montclair, New Jersey.
07:48 Hey Brad.
07:49 He had this and I bought it for Rhoads' room
07:52 before I even had this house.
07:54 But I just knew it was gonna hang in his room
07:57 wherever we ended up.
07:58 (upbeat music)
08:00 This is technically my front yard.
08:10 Even though I'm up in the hills,
08:11 there's like a flat front yard and backyard
08:13 for my son to run around.
08:15 And this gazebo was a big selling point.
08:18 Which by the way, I should mention this house was for rent.
08:21 And I came to look at it and I was like, would they sell it?
08:24 Thinking they'd say no, but they said yes.
08:26 So that was kind of funny.
08:28 But this gazebo they had set up with actually
08:30 more of like an eating area.
08:31 And I love it more as like a hang area.
08:34 You'll usually find me out here talking on the phone.
08:36 (upbeat music)
08:45 Now we go to the pool.
08:48 My son loves to do this little trail
08:50 where he goes up there, up there,
08:51 and likes to stand on like the most dangerous rock
08:54 by the jacuzzi, you know, as kids do.
08:56 So that's pretty fun.
08:57 I fell in love with this pool area.
08:58 'Cause yeah, it's not like your typical sleek pool area.
09:02 It actually like reminds me of being a kid
09:04 where you would just be like jumping off of rocks
09:07 or jumping off the side of the house,
09:08 which you guys shouldn't do that.
09:10 But you know, everyone when I was a kid,
09:12 like had diving boards and all that,
09:13 which we're not allowed to have anymore.
09:15 And so this to me felt like fun in a safe way.
09:19 Should I just jump in now?
09:21 (upbeat music)
09:23 We are in the primary suite.
09:33 And this room, when I walked in and it was done,
09:37 I couldn't believe it.
09:39 I love anything floral, especially roses, peonies,
09:43 pinks, and the fact that they match the headboard
09:46 to the drapes.
09:47 I just absolutely died.
09:49 When it's all shut, it just looks like one big painting
09:52 and it's so beautiful and so cozy in here.
09:54 As I said, cozy is the word I'm always looking for.
09:58 These vintage lamps, these came from Las Vegas.
10:02 And again, we needed more fringe.
10:04 So these, I was introduced to,
10:07 they're made by Pearson Ward, cord covers,
10:10 because how many times are we looking at beautiful pieces
10:13 and then the cords ruin it?
10:14 So now we have an amazing solution
10:16 that you'll see all throughout the house
10:18 to just cover them with gorgeous fabric.
10:20 Another genius idea that I had not come up with.
10:22 Something else I loved that they did in this room
10:25 is mismatched side tables.
10:27 And I remember when they brought them in,
10:29 I was like, I love both of them.
10:30 Which one are we gonna use?
10:31 And they're like, both.
10:33 And I didn't know how it was gonna look.
10:34 And now I feel like I need to do mismatched side tables
10:37 everywhere I go.
10:38 (upbeat music)
10:41 So we are in my bathroom slash my office
10:49 slash my favorite place in the world.
10:51 There was hardwood floors in here.
10:54 So I was like, we have to tile the bathroom.
10:56 And we were just gonna do white, who cares?
10:59 Make it look clean.
11:00 And then we found this tile,
11:02 this gorgeous like pomegranate colored tile.
11:06 And I just fell in love with it
11:09 and love that we kind of added some pops of pink color
11:12 with the curtains to kind of go with the floor.
11:15 It just all came together so beautifully.
11:16 I usually sit here at my computer.
11:19 I do some zooms.
11:20 I read my magazines, write in my notebook.
11:24 It's so funny 'cause before when I moved in,
11:26 there was just like a ballet bar on this wall.
11:27 And I was like, oh, I'll do my at-home bar classes
11:30 on this bar on the wall, perfect.
11:33 No, clothes were strewn on it at all times.
11:36 I don't think I did one bar workout on that ballet bar.
11:38 So I remember after the floor was in and everything,
11:40 I was like, do you think we could do a vanity?
11:43 And they made all my dreams come true with it.
11:45 A bar cart turned bath product holder,
11:48 I think is very underrated.
11:51 My little roadie, his room doesn't have a bathtub.
11:55 So it's cute 'cause he'll take a bath in here.
11:57 And that's kind of our thing at night
11:58 where we go from his room or the living room
12:00 and run into here and have bath time.
12:03 As you can see, his toys are down here.
12:04 If I have free time, I'll come in here
12:07 and just really take some time for me and decompress.
12:11 I mean, as soon as you guys leave,
12:12 I'm gonna take a bath and be like,
12:14 I hope that went okay.
12:15 (upbeat music)
12:17 Thanks, AD, for coming to check out my dolls and my books.
12:29 I hope you had fun and see you next time, bye.
12:33 (door slams)
