00:00 My own welfare lies in me being able to respect consciousness.
00:10 Why do I suffer?
00:11 Why does any human being suffer?
00:13 Because we forget that we are just not the body.
00:17 The body has its own games, its own agendas.
00:21 I have my purposes that are separate from the purposes of the body.
00:26 For example, the body might want to sleep.
00:29 I might not necessarily agree.
00:32 The body might want to eat or jump around or the body in a certain stage of life might
00:39 demand procreation and I do not extend my consent to all that.
00:44 I am not the body so I am not obliged to always concur with the body.
00:50 The moment I see I am consciousness, something very magical happens.
00:55 Wherever consciousness is seen, it becomes an expression of who I am.
01:04 How can I kill myself then?
01:05 I look at the rabbit and in the rabbit's eyes there is nothing different from what is there
01:11 in my eyes.
01:14 The shine might be different, the form might be different but the essential characteristic
01:19 is the same.
01:20 I do not want to die.
01:21 The consciousness here says well there is more to explore, more to achieve.
01:26 Probably there is something called liberation that is still left.
01:30 So there is a certain hunger in my eyes.
01:32 I see a certain hunger in the rabbit's eyes as well.
01:36 The rabbit might not be demanding liberation.
01:38 It might just be asking for a carrot.
01:40 But there is that desire there.
01:43 So in killing the rabbit I am killing a part of myself, something very similar to myself.
01:47 I could even say I am killing myself when I kill anybody.
01:50 If I hurt someone I am hurting myself.
01:55 That's the route and the position that we are taking.
01:59 And to our surprise it's been cutting eyes.
02:03 In a short period of time there have been people, really tough nuts and chronic meat
02:11 eaters for whatever reasons.
02:16 They have just been able to come around and do things.
02:22 But equally the state of treatment towards animals in India has been deteriorating.
02:32 India has traditionally been home to the largest number of vegetarians in the world.
02:38 But now only around 30%, less than 30% of the population is vegetarian.
02:43 So violence towards animals is on the rise and insensitivity is rife, especially among
02:54 the younger people.
02:56 We are trying to fight it out.
02:58 Let's see.
