00:00 The challenge we have, and that is why we haven't made as much progress as we should,
00:07 and that is why we have not achieved our potential as a country, is that those of us who have
00:16 the opportunity to lead, those of us who have been chosen as leaders, want to do convenient
00:25 things, want to do popular things.
00:28 And I will say this again.
00:33 As leaders, we are elected to lead, to serve, and to make a difference in people's lives.
00:45 We are not elected to be popular.
00:50 If you want to continuously be popular, don't be a leader.
00:58 Be something else.
01:01 There is an opportunity for you to be popular all the time, for people to clap for you all
01:08 the time.
01:09 Be a comedian.
01:12 That way, you don't have to struggle.
01:15 People will continuously clap for you, people will continue to laugh at what you're saying,
01:20 and people will continue, you will continue to be popular.
01:24 But those of us who have an opportunity to lead, let us do the right thing.
01:31 It may not necessarily be popular, but the right thing will get us to the right place,
01:36 and we will never go wrong by doing the right thing.
01:38 Thank you.
01:39 [Applause]
