00:00All right, so we have had this discussion a number of times because Mr. Tarantino has
00:04come on the show a bunch of times and we all know he's notoriously going to make one more
00:07film and then he says he's going to be finished.
00:09Yeah.
00:10I believe him.
00:11I don't.
00:12I do.
00:13I believe him.
00:14I don't.
00:15I think he's very serious about it.
00:16He's done with film, but that doesn't mean he won't do TV or write books.
00:19His books are good.
00:21At the same time, Mr. Scorsese just came out recently and talked about the weight of time
00:25and how he feels like he's been racing time to tell as many stories as possible.
00:29With both of those opinions out there, I'm curious which one you gravitate towards.
00:33Do you want to have a body of work that you stop or are you going to race time?
00:38I mean, I think I'm both.
00:41You know, the truth is I understand both points of view.
00:46It's very, it's addictive to tell stories in cinema.
00:50It's really, it's a lot of hard work, but it's very fun.
00:54It's something you feel driven to do.
00:55And so it's a little hard to imagine voluntarily stopping.
00:58And by no means do we want you to.
01:00No, but I also see, you know, Quentin's point has always been that, and he never very graciously,
01:11he's never specific about the films he's talking about or whatever, but he's looking at some
01:16of the work done by filmmakers in later years and feeling that if it can't live up to the
01:22heyday, it will be better if it didn't exist.
01:28And I think that's a very purist point of view.
01:31It's the point of view of a cinephile who, you know, prizes film history.
01:38But I think, I'm not sure that I would trust my own sense of the absolute value of a piece
01:46of work to know whether or not it should have been brought into existence.
01:50I'm a big fan, I mean, as is Quentin, of films that maybe don't fully achieve what they tried
01:57to, but there's something in there that's a performance or a little structural thing
02:01or a scene, you know, that's wonderful.
02:05And so, you know, yes, I understand they want to keep a sort of perfect reputation or something,
02:12but also kind of don't want to take anything off the table.
02:15Sure.
02:16I mean, with Ridley, if Ridley had stopped at 10, he wouldn't have made Gladiator, I
02:20think is where we did the math.
