00:10Good morning, I'm Brigadier General, retired, Aaron Dean.
00:13Let history record this moment as I, in my capacity
00:17as the second-in-command
00:18of the District of Columbia National Guard,
00:21entrusted with the sacred duty to advise
00:23and assist the commanding general
00:24on matters of operational significance
00:26concerning the deployment
00:28of the District of Columbia National Guard
00:30on January 6th, 2021,
00:33address the grave assertions and inaccuracies
00:35contained in the Inspector General's Report,
00:37DOD IG 2022-039.
00:41I believe it is my duty and moral obligation
00:45to stand before you today and illuminate the truth.
00:49I stand resolute, bearing witness
00:51to the unwavering readiness and unparalleled dedication
00:55of the service members
00:56of the District of Columbia National Guard.
00:59I will answer questions honestly,
01:02as witnessed through the lens of my 34-year career
01:05in the District of Columbia National Guard.
01:08I rebuff in the strongest terms the insidious insinuation
01:12that the District of Columbia National Guard
01:15faltered in its duty,
01:17that it languished in apathy or incompetence
01:19when called upon to safeguard the sanctum of democracy.
01:23Today, I will tell the truth to the best of my recollection,
01:27unblemished by falsehoods,
01:29and in doing so, exonerate the honor
01:32of the brave soldiers and airmen
01:34who stood unwavering in the defense of our nation.
01:38May my testimony serve as a testament
01:40to the indomitable spirit of those
01:42who answered the call of duty on that historic day.
