CELEBRATE THE UK'S INDEPENDENT RECORD SHOPS
RECORD STORE DAY - 20TH APRIL 2024

Record Store Day first started in 2007 when a gathering of record shop owners came together in the US to celebrate and spread the word about the unique culture of record stores.

The first official event took place on April 19th, 2008, and today it is celebrated by thousands of record shops all over the globe in what's become the biggest new music event of the past decade.

Record Store Day is a day for the people who make up the world of the record shop - the staff, the customers, the artists, the labels - to come together and honour the special role they place in their local communities. In the UK, over 270 shops participate in every corner of the country.

While there's only one Record Store Day a year, organisers work hard throughout the year to shine a light on all the amazing people in record shops and the special and exclusive releases artists and labels create to support them.

Record Store Day took place on 20 April 2024.

00:10 My name's Tony Gorky and this is Blitzkrieg Shop.
00:22 I'm right by the Baras and I'm just celebrating Record Store Day today.
00:27 These are the three records I'm going to recommend for Record Store 2024.
00:32 David Bowie, Waiting in the Sky, Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros,
00:37 Rock Art and the X-Ray Style, and the Ramones 1975 Sire demos.
00:43 A bit biased, but Ramones has always been a band I love.
00:47 This new 1975 Sire demos is absolutely fantastic.
00:52 I've had the fortune of playing it for the last few days.
00:55 There's also a double pink vinyl of Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros,
00:59 this X-Ray Style album, Rock Art and X-Ray Style, which is absolutely brilliant.
01:04 And of course, the man, David Bowie.
01:06 This is an original demos album before the Starman came to Earth, so
01:11 there's no Starman on it, but it's a fantastic demo album of Ziggy Stardust.
01:17 >> What's so important about Record Store Day?
01:19 >> I think it really helps people to connect with the local shops.
01:23 People love coming in and trying to get their mitts on the prized possessions.
01:30 It kind of galvanizes them, so you see people forming groups of chat and
01:35 stuff like that outside and becoming pals over waiting for
01:40 their favorite vinyl and having a chat about music in general.
01:44 We've got Susie and the Band, She's, we've got Viv Albertine,
01:47 we've got Tricky, we've got Suede, and there's millions.
01:50 We actually deliberately to actually stock as many as possible,
01:54 over 190 titles, so things like the Zoetrope Fat Boy Slim,
01:59 the Zoetrope Blur album, and the Doctor Who album.
02:03 We had Cheech and Chong there, and we've got Monty Python's Flying Circus, so
02:07 there's nothing that we wouldn't stock if we could get a hold of it.
02:11 Hope you all got what you were after, and if you didn't, pop in and see us, and
02:15 we'll see if we can sort you out.
