Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder felt his side should have gone into the half time break ahead not two goals behind, but conceded that Burnley were the more clinical of the two sides.

00:00 Some of the old failings that have been put to bed for the last few weeks really re-emerged today?
00:06 Yeah, you can't get away from that Stu. Generally overall, it sums us up really.
00:16 At our maximum, whether individually or team, we're okay.
00:22 I thought the first 35 minutes we should be 3-0 up.
00:26 Three glorious chances. What does that do to affect the team?
00:31 What does that do to Burnley?
00:35 We understand, and listen, everybody plays a different way,
00:39 and understand how Burnley, it's risk and reward, and it opens up and they have that extra man for the goalkeeper that steps in.
00:45 So we knew that they'd have possession of the ball, but games aren't decided on possession of the ball.
00:51 But when we have them opportunities to score, we have to score. We have to score, because this is the Premier League.
00:57 You can't afford not to. So for three big chances for 35 minutes.
01:02 I suppose even when you're coming in at half-time at 0-0, you go, listen, shape's good, everything's good.
01:10 Defending the way that you've defended for 35 minutes, they really opened us up.
01:18 Coming in, you'll create opportunities going forward.
01:22 And I'm coming in and saying a different thing, because the two goals epitomise where we have been.
01:29 Individual errors, one mistake, two mistakes, nobody goes one mistake, pulls somebody out with a rectifying situation,
01:40 or does something to stop that.
01:44 First goal, deflection. Second goal, obviously, a mix-up, and then we come in at half-time.
01:49 And I imagine Vinny's going out of the alleyway 2-0 up here, and I'm going out of the alleyway 2-0 down there.
01:56 Second goal, next goal, is a big goal for both teams.
02:01 We came flying out the traps, we get ourselves back into it, we basically should go 2-2, 3-2.
02:08 We don't, and then yet again, counter-attack, poor bit of defending, one mistake, two mistakes, three mistakes, goal.
02:16 Pinning the balloon of everybody around the place, which I totally understand.
02:20 And then, yet again, from a leadership point of view, nobody dragging themselves in to say,
02:26 'Right, it's 3-1, but we have to reset and go again like we did at half-time.'
02:30 There's still half an hour, but the fourth goes in and it's game, set and match, and it's pretty comfortable
02:36 last 20 minutes for Burnley and Vinny.
02:39 And I guess the timings of the goals as well. The second one straight in the back of the first,
02:43 and then the third one on the back of Gussies as well. It seems a real problem for this team to just...
02:48 Yeah, it is. When we're not right, we're nearly there.
02:56 At times we get there, but the majority of times we're nearly there.
03:02 We can't expect to be 35-15 minutes, no applause or well done for the last 15-20 minutes.
03:19 The game was done, they'd done enough to win the game, but I look round when the temperature goes up a little bit.
03:28 I look round on that pitch and there aren't really many that are really stepping forward in those big moments
03:36 to drag their team through it.
03:40 So that is something obviously that every team has and every team needs.
03:49 When you go through those moments, when you're suffering, you need to stick together.
03:56 But all of a sudden, like I said, we implode and we go quickly, 1-2 and 3-4.
04:02 And that just kills us and doesn't give us a chance.
04:06 Did it take you by surprise? Obviously we've seen it quite a lot earlier this year, but since the Arsenal game
04:11 there seemed to be a bit more solidity, a bit more of that leadership around this game.
04:15 Yeah, from a tactical point of view, the shape allowed us to sit in and play the way we did
04:22 and to create those three big chances and even the first 15 minutes of the second half.
04:30 It's difficult because when they get the tails up, they all want the ball and get on it.
04:34 When something goes the other way, I suppose the biggest thing is the key to that
04:40 and the answer to that is don't make mistakes that get punished, which we do.
04:45 The deflection in the first one, is there a big save in there?
04:50 The second one, the third one and the fourth one, we'll look at that from our point of view
04:54 as some really poor goals in a season and a catalogue of really poor goals.
05:02 A bit of a stick for individual players as well, what did you make of that?
05:07 You've got to get on with it. I didn't see anybody have a go at Jadon Bogo.
05:11 I didn't see anybody have a go at Oli Arblaster.
05:15 So, obviously you've been here before, how do you lift them from here?
05:21 Do you put the onus on them? It's up to you to lift yourselves.
05:25 Well, we'll help them and we'll prepare. We'll be in it early and we'll leave late
05:30 and we'll give them the information and the tactical stuff that we did today.
05:38 I still don't think, listen, I'll maybe look at the Arsenal game and go,
05:44 should we have gone with a four, but we went with a four against Liverpool and did OK.
05:48 We opened ourselves up against them.
05:51 There'll always be a huge reflection from a tactical point of view and a coaching point of view
05:56 and a management point of view on how we set up.
06:00 I'm not trying to deflate, but that game wasn't decided from a tactical point of view.
06:06 It's decided basically what happened in both boxes and obviously what happened
06:10 when they smoked blood and were big enough and strong enough to deal with it.
06:16 When we were under the pump, we went under and wanted to get out of the place.
06:23 That can't be the case from the players' point of view.
06:27 They can't just want the whistle to go.
06:30 I won't name names, but I think there were a few players out there
06:37 that wanted to get out of there pretty quickly after the fourth went in,
06:43 which you can't have. You just can't have.
06:46 We can't have. I can't have. I can't accept it.
06:49 It's a difficult situation because of the lack of players that we've got in.
06:54 You can't really do anything about it from that point of view.
06:57 I think there were a few that wanted to get out of there pretty quickly,
07:01 and that can't happen. It's a powerful league.
07:03 It's been too powerful for us all season.
07:06 We've shown glimpses. We've shown bits and pieces.
07:09 We've shown, like you said, 15 minutes just after half-time.
07:13 30, 35 minutes first half.
07:18 We've done that for quite a lot of the games that I've been here as well.
07:25 Away at Bournemouth, Villa, away home to Luton, West Ham, Fulham,
07:35 even Liverpool. We've shown moments, but moments and nearly and not enough.
07:42 The division is too powerful for us individually and collectively as a group.
07:49 In the longer term then, in terms of the summer,
07:53 do you just have to clear out all of these characters?
07:56 Is that feasible, so many?
07:58 Yes, we'll try. I have to make some big decisions.
08:03 There'll be players that we have to make decisions on.
08:10 There'll be out-of-contract players.
08:12 I think everybody realises that there's always a need for a rebuild.
08:16 I think it's been a real difficult season.
08:18 I totally understand that, understanding the timings of stuff as well at the start
08:23 and how difficult that was. It wasn't ideal for anybody, management or even higher than management.
08:31 It's been difficult. There won't be personal decisions.
08:40 It won't be about personalities.
08:42 It'll be about what's best for this brilliant football club
08:45 that at the moment is going through some pain.
08:48 We all are, but as I keep saying, and it's quite difficult for me to say this,
08:54 there will be better times and I will, with the help of the coaches and everybody
09:02 that we need to lean on to make us go again, which we will do.
09:09 I think we all realise that unless that red line comes and we're under it,
09:14 but I think we all understand the situation.
09:16 I'm not being defeatist, I'm just being a realist that the season really is gone.
09:24 We still have to. We have an obligation to our supporters.
09:29 We have an obligation to the league and to be as competitive as we possibly can.
09:34 So we'll look at that as well, but we'll get it right
09:39 and we'll have people that want to be here, we'll have people that want to run around
09:44 and want to be involved when the going gets tough
09:47 and want to be part of it when we're going well.
09:51 So that's what a proper footballer looks like and a proper team looks like.
09:59 So we have to understand that.
10:03 In the meantime, we have to do our best to make this as painless as possible
10:10 because at the moment it is pain going through every part of the football club,
10:20 most importantly the supporters.
10:22 How difficult is that when that's the most you can strive for in the next five games,
10:27 to just make it as painless as possible?
10:29 Well, we have to give our best. We can't turn it in.
10:34 We certainly won't and the supporters won't.
10:38 It isn't them and us, we have to take responsibility for everything as well.
10:45 So I have to put players on the pitch that I believe are going to absolutely go for it
10:49 and leave everything out there.
10:51 So that's my decision.
10:54 As you can imagine, it's been pretty difficult this season
10:57 with the selection issue and the availability issue.
11:00 You yearn for an Egan, you yearn for a Robinson in those situations.
11:09 You yearn for a couple of those other players that have not been available
11:14 but they're not so we have to.
11:17 And people will come through it, like I just said.
11:19 Bogle will come through it and be a better player.
11:22 Blaster will come through it through the experience.
11:25 But like I said, going back to the decision,
11:28 the decisions you make, I've got absolutely no issue
11:32 in making decisions that are right for this football club.
