00:00 And the winner of the gold medal is the Australian team.
00:07 >> Good luck. Back to your corners.
00:13 >> Once again, John Watson, our referee, our three ringside judges,
00:18 Trent Van Gaalen, Phil Holliday and Phil Austin in attendance.
00:24 >> And in the red trunks is Adam Flood. In the red trunks is Kenny Aitken.
00:33 A big step up for Floody here, the Toowoomba boy. Scared of no one, scared of nothing.
00:39 >> A big step up. A massive step up, Andy, but he's coming off consecutive KO victories.
00:44 So a confident fighter is a dangerous fighter.
00:47 So he's willing to test that out against a really good up-and-comer in Ken Aitken.
00:53 >> He was in there with Kenny Aitken. He's no shy. He doesn't shy away from a tough fight, that's for sure.
01:03 >> Confidence. What is it? Where does it come from? How do you get it? How do you lose it?
01:08 If anyone can come up with the answer, I've got a couple of thousand sporting coaches worldwide
01:13 that would love to know your secret, but confidence is a wonderful thing.
01:19 >> Adam Flood and the White is certainly riding with that.
01:27 Queensland titleist is Kenny Aitken, a baby-faced assassin.
01:33 If we go back a little in history, I do recall the Channel 7 touring car days back in the 1980s
01:40 where Glenn Seaton, when he was an early 20-something year old, came in and gave a few of the old hand a bit of a touch-up.
01:49 And he had the nickname "Glenn Seaton, the baby-faced assassin."
01:54 Ripping to the body really well is Aitken there. You can see he's ripping into the body,
01:58 then finishing up with a hook to the head. So a couple of times he just had success in that last exchange.
02:03 >> The excitement, not so much in the arena, but backstage, is palpable tonight.
02:13 And I say that because boxing back on free-to-air TV, it's wonderful for us old blokes who remember the last time.
02:23 But these young athletes, they are buying into it like I've never seen in Australian boxing before.
02:29 It is an amazing atmosphere, one of unity, which is another rarity in Aussie boxing.
02:37 But they are pumped to make their mark and make their mark in front of a wider audience.
02:43 >> Well, it's a different world now too, Andy, obviously, with social media and stuff.
02:46 So the work can get out pretty quickly, and that's what's happened.
02:49 And every fighter on this has obviously embraced that.
02:55 As you can see, Kenny Aitken here really unloading on his opponent, Adam Flood.
03:01 >> That was nice from Aitken, wasn't it?
03:03 >> Yeah, really good. He's going to the body really well.
03:05 >> Really nice explosion from Aitken. But again, it was controlled.
03:11 That's what we spoke about in the first fight.
03:14 Sure, it's exciting and it's fun when the two opponents meet in the center ring
03:19 and they throw haymakers at one another.
03:21 But it's not doing themselves any favors.
03:25 These two guys doing what they did in the first fight,
03:28 it's quite calculated for guys not that far into their professional career.
03:32 >> As you can see, some replays here from that first round.
03:35 A very explosive round once again.
03:37 Both boys come out, all guns blazing.
03:39 But it was that man in the red trunks that probably had more success.
03:43 He was digging into the body and finishing to the head.
03:45 And it paid massive dividends.
03:48 As you can see here, body, shot over to the-- and finishing to the head.
03:52 Really scoring well is Ken Aitken.
03:55 >> Six rounds is the journey.
04:02 Now brought to us by Oxworks.
04:09 Glenn Hosking and the crew.
04:13 >> All good?
04:15 >> Yeah.
04:16 >> Here we go, round number two.
04:19 Aitken in the red, Flood in the white.
04:25 Really good one.
04:26 Yeah, really good one.
04:27 Both guys really free with the shots earlier.
04:30 Very fluid.
04:32 Just a little quick of the punch in the early stages around number two is Ken Aitken.
04:38 I guess we could say that for what we saw for the majority of round one.
04:44 >> Good.
04:45 >> Both boys fighting in that mid-range and that's when you engage.
04:49 Obviously that was a really good hook there from Ken Aitken
04:51 to finish that combination once again.
04:54 I've said this before about Ken Aitken.
05:01 I love the stance.
05:04 He looks like just the natural athlete.
05:08 Oh, the body shot.
05:11 >> Three, four, five, six, seven.
05:15 >> It was a couple of punches in all of that.
05:17 Body, high, changing levels.
05:21 Adam Flood gets back to his feet.
05:24 And he's been investing in that body since the opening seconds of the opening round
05:30 and you can see he's paid dividends already because that was a cracking shot
05:34 and he felt every bit of that, did Adam Flood, as he wants to try and finish this early.
05:39 >> And did it again there so beautifully, Ken Aitken.
05:42 Body, high, body, high.
05:45 Adam Flood there.
05:47 Was that a stumble we saw from Ken Aitken?
05:49 >> Well, I think it was a little bit off balance to be honest
05:52 as he catches him with a couple of shots down the middle
05:55 and there's a knockdown there.
05:57 >> There we go.
05:58 Two knockdowns in round number two.
06:00 >> Wow, what a turnaround.
06:02 >> Seven, eight.
06:03 >> You okay?
06:04 Come here.
06:05 You all right?
06:06 >> Yeah.
06:07 >> Watson checking in.
06:09 We're going to fight.
06:11 Just when you think Ken Aitken was about to close it out,
06:15 Adam Flood says, "Not yet, not now."
06:19 And both guys probably locked together there thinking, "What's next?"
06:27 >> And that's what usually happens, Andy, when you get a bit of confidence up,
06:30 especially when you drop your opponent, you start opening up
06:33 and it keeps massive gaps in your own defense
06:37 and that's what Floody took advantage of, that's for sure.
06:40 >> Stop, stop, turn.
06:47 Come here, both of you, come here.
06:50 Punches off, okay?
06:52 Listen, both of you.
06:53 Box.
06:54 >> Taking him to the corner there as close as you will get
06:58 without wearing a black eye and needing stitches.
07:02 John Watson not letting either guy get away with a thing.
07:06 Final couple of seconds of the round.
07:09 What a round it has been.
07:11 It looked like a certain ten-eight round for Ken Aitken.
07:18 Adam Flood has fought back.
07:22 And I think he can mount an argument to say he's snatched the round.
07:26 >> Oh, yeah, I mean, especially, you know, the judges remember both the end of the round,
07:31 so that's where he was dominant, so you're exactly right.
07:35 There might be a potential case of him stealing that round for sure.
07:38 You can see some replays from that second round and what an exciting round it was.
07:46 Both boys scoring a knockdown.
07:49 A crazy combination and that body shot he invested in from the very start of the fight
07:55 and it paid dividends right there.
07:57 But it wasn't the end as we saw because Adam Flood, bang, straight down the pipe,
08:04 scoring with that massive right hand, sending his opponent to the canvas.
08:08 >> That's a crazy sport, but we love it.
08:13 One knockdown apiece in round number two.
08:20 Phil Austin, Phil Holiday, Trent Van Garland, good luck.
08:24 Another beauty.
08:26 [crowd noise]
08:31 >> It is Aiken in the red, Flood in the white, two right-handers.
08:35 Queensland boys.
08:39 We're here at the Brisbane powerhouse right on the river,
08:45 runs through the centre of the Olympic city.
08:48 Well, we think it's the Olympic city,
08:51 you're never quite sure with the politicians and the announcements up here,
08:55 but at this stage we're going ahead with it.
08:58 >> I'll tell you what, Floody has just caught him with an uppercut
09:01 and just popped open the nose of Kenny Aiken.
09:03 It hasn't flowed down with blood yet,
09:06 but I saw some claret come out of it as soon as he hit that uppercut.
09:09 Good body shot there from Adam Flood as well.
09:15 >> The confidence in Adam Flood and the change in him since that knockdown,
09:20 you can see it in the eyes.
09:22 >> Right!
09:23 >> Let me tell you, he's in with a very experienced customer,
09:29 Kenny Aiken as well.
09:30 There's no one he hasn't fought on the domestic scene.
09:32 Wins over Lockie Shea, Aaron Stahl, Dean Thomas.
09:35 He's well and truly put himself in the deep end already,
09:38 Kenny Aiken, in his short career.
09:40 And Adam's sticking with him, that's for sure.
09:43 >> Lockie O'Shea is headlining our next live event,
09:46 an Australian welterweight title match against Joel Taylor.
09:50 It is Wednesday, the 17th of April.
09:54 Our next live event, but in between that,
09:57 our studio show, Beyond the Ropes.
10:00 Every Wednesday night on 7 Plus, you can get your boxing fix
10:05 as we look to give you more, more of what you want,
10:09 more of what you need midweek.
10:11 >> He's overreaching there a little bit,
10:15 Kenny Aiken is very dangerous with a sharp shooter like Adam Flood.
10:18 And you saw, he brought up that uppercut before so perfectly.
10:21 So when you dive in like that,
10:23 sometimes you can walk into an uppercut, it's very dangerous.
10:26 So he's got to be weary of that.
10:27 >> Both guys looking a little used car at the moment.
10:33 They came in looking like brand spanking new ones.
10:37 There's a few dents already.
10:39 Marking us on Kenny Aiken,
10:43 just underneath the eyes and a little bit of a leak underneath the nose.
10:48 You can see the marks on Adam Flood's face underneath his eyes,
10:53 but certainly not enough to stop either man.
10:55 Good body shot right there.
10:57 Power body shot.
10:58 >> That's been his best combination so far tonight,
11:00 is that left rip to the body and then a left hook up upstairs for Kenny Aiken.
11:05 Had success plenty of times as he goes to the body once again
11:07 while his opponent's back's to the ropes.
11:10 >> That's how ready his body is normally.
11:12 >> Working that.
11:13 >> Come on, Kenny.
11:14 >> Get back, get back.
11:15 >> Push him back.
11:16 >> Kenny, one, two.
11:17 >> Get out.
11:18 >> Good jab there from Kenny.
11:20 >> Clashing together in the last seconds of the round.
11:25 Another good one.
11:26 Round three, we are halfway home here at Welterweight.
11:38 >> Round three was another pearl of both boys putting on a clinic.
11:41 You can see once again plenty of shots thrown throughout the course of that third round.
11:47 Plenty of success by Kenny Aiken in those body shots,
11:50 that left rip, left hook paying massive dividends.
11:55 Floody keeps it straight, but he has success as well.
12:01 Great fight.
12:03 [MUSIC]
12:06 >> Caleb Gray and Brett Richards along with Mick Shaw going to work.
12:19 Plenty of words between the two.
12:25 Adam Flood calling it on from his corner just before the bell in round number four,
12:31 the second half of this fight.
12:33 Six three-minute rounds is the journey.
12:35 Oxworks are the sponsor.
12:37 Our other fabulous sponsors include Zoo Creative,
12:44 Javier Holmes, Hannah Lawyers,
12:47 Wandless Waste Management,
12:49 Axon Metal Recycling,
12:51 as you built, Jason.
12:52 Good exchange here.
12:54 >> Things are starting to heat up and they're right above us right now, Andy,
12:59 and they're thudding these shots, that's for sure.
13:02 They're not tapping.
13:03 Now they settle down.
13:09 A right-hand power punch as his first punch.
13:14 He's keen, Adam Flood.
13:16 Yeah, good right hand just scored there from Kenny Aiken as well.
13:19 Back-to-back wins, as you said, over Paddy Clark and Ashton Kader.
13:24 It's his record of four and three at the moment, Adam Flood.
13:28 And knockout wins as well.
13:30 You can see he's got that power.
13:31 We've already seen it and we just saw it then with another hook.
13:34 He's setting up with the hook.
13:39 It was the right hand that did the damage
13:41 and tagged Ken Aiken in the second round
13:44 when both guys went down straight right hands there.
13:47 Sometimes Kenny Aiken, when he throws his combination,
13:50 he's dipping his head and he's creating plenty of opportunity
13:54 for that uppercut to come through from Adam Flood.
13:57 He's caught him a few times
13:58 and he's just got to be weary of that moving forward.
14:00 Another one from Adam Flood, that left hook.
14:06 You spotted that a while back, Nath.
14:10 He's using it well, but not overusing it.
14:15 Not overusing it.
14:16 I stress that with a minute to go in round number four.
14:19 Our main event tonight for the IBO Super Flyweight Championship
14:23 of the World, Australian Taylor Robertson
14:26 against Mexico's Gloria Gallardo.
14:30 And you just know with the Mexican,
14:32 they only know one way.
14:34 It is front foot and it is fight on.
14:37 You just know you're going to get it handy.
14:41 They're not going to box on their toes, no Mexican, that's for sure.
14:43 They're just going to come forward and throw plenty of punches.
14:45 It was a great viewing for everyone.
14:48 As we see, Kenny Aiken just unloaded a massive shot
14:51 and that stumbled Floody a little bit there.
14:55 It's a round winner that one.
14:57 Yes, definitely.
14:59 He's recovered well, but a couple more shots sneak through from Kenny Aiken.
15:04 That was a really big shot.
15:06 He did well to stay on his feet, Adam Flood.
15:08 Both guys launching back, just a little over enthusiastic.
15:14 Aiken goes to the body, Flood goes high.
15:17 That will be the end.
15:22 That will be the last punch in anger of the round.
15:25 Four rounds down, two rounds remain.
15:28 Another beauty amidst the first event of Premier Boxing Series.
15:35 What a cracker.
15:36 Both boys putting it all out there.
15:38 Round four was as good as round three and as good as round two.
15:43 We're getting spawned here.
15:45 Both boys throwing plenty of power shots
15:48 and connecting with plenty of power shots.
15:51 You can see Floody probably throwing one a little bit too far out
15:55 and got caught with the counter there, but what a fight.
15:58 The look on the face of Kenny Aiken there,
16:18 there was a lot of instructions being thrown at him
16:21 and it was like, "Hey guys, I just want a rest.
16:26 Get my breath back."
16:28 We are back into it.
16:30 This is round number five, five of six.
16:32 We're in the welterweight division, Oxworks.
16:34 Oxworks.com.au, our fabulous sponsor.
16:37 It is Kenny Aiken in the red, Adam Flood in the white.
16:43 Champion, champion, champion.
16:45 Aiken brought about chasing Flood around the ring,
17:02 decided against him.
17:03 Flood at the moment was looking to bring Aiken onto his shots
17:07 and there was a good right hand there from Flood.
17:09 And it was an uppercut that just missed again.
17:11 Once again, I think moving forward,
17:14 I mean, Kenny's got longevity in the sport, I think,
17:17 because he's a great little boxer,
17:19 but he definitely dips his head when he comes forward to his opponent
17:22 and that creates the opening for that uppercut to come through.
17:25 There's a swing and a miss, that's just a slip there.
17:28 No, they've put the count on here.
17:39 There must have been a connection that I missed, but...
17:42 Flood is keen as to punch on, and punch on they do send a ring.
17:48 Halfway through round number five, a little left hook there by Kenny Aiken.
17:52 Flood, front foot, is the flash.
17:56 Mick Shaw, the former national champion, in his corner,
18:01 barking instructions out of the red corner.
18:04 Stop! Stop boxing!
18:06 No, don't do it.
18:08 Shot, warning there for a...
18:11 What a shot, a hidden shot if you want, I think, from our referee, Johnny Watson.
18:19 Wow, two and three right hands from Kenny Aiken,
18:22 really setting up this fifth round.
18:25 Cracking right hands from Ken Aiken.
18:28 Aiken physically bullying Flood around the ring at the moment.
18:33 Flood, he takes him back into the corner and just puts a pause on proceedings.
18:37 Yeah, you can see he's starting to feel the pinch.
18:39 The mouth is open now from Adam Flood, and these shots will be taking a toll.
18:44 He's been relentless to the body, and they definitely take their toll,
18:49 but he's still courageous, that's for sure.
18:52 Couple of right hands in there from Adam Flood.
18:55 Not all hope is lost, and he's certainly lost no friends or followers here.
19:02 Both guys strike with the left.
19:04 Flood with the slight reach advantage, it would appear, to the naked eye,
19:09 so he's going to win that battle if they strike him from the outside.
19:13 Last couple of seconds of round number five.
19:17 There we go, 60 seconds to sit back,
19:26 take a few long deep breaths before ripping in for the final three minutes.
19:33 Another great round, round five, that uppercut paying dividends for Ken Aiken,
19:42 and another explosive round, so, so many punches thrown by both boys,
19:48 and that was the knockdown that I missed.
19:50 It was definitely a right hand connecting,
19:53 and that was forcing Adam Flood to the canvas,
19:56 so rightly so, was given the count.
19:59 We're sold out here at the beautiful Powerhouse.
20:06 Great crowd there enjoying this, we hope you are,
20:10 wherever you may be watching live around Australia on 7 Plus.
20:15 We are here every Wednesday night through to November,
20:20 either live boxing or Beyond the Ropes,
20:23 where we're talking to the superstars each and every week.
20:28 Ken Aiken, red trunks, Adam Flood, white trunks,
20:36 both guys were down in the second round, Adam Flood was down in round number five.
20:41 They've got these three minutes to do something about it,
20:47 and try and convince the judges that their hands should be raised.
20:51 John Watson separating a man.
21:03 Flood losing just a little bit of momentum.
21:09 Yeah, a bit of desperation creeping in now,
21:11 you can see he's starting to probably overreach a little bit,
21:15 you can find that knockout punch, he probably feels he's behind,
21:18 especially with that second knockdown.
21:20 He's starting to get very desperate,
21:22 but it's creating holes for Ken Aiken to exploit.
21:25 Ken Aiken comes into this fight, six wins, one loss.
21:31 Again, an interruption and a warning from John Watson.
21:42 Boys launching into their work, it does smell a little bit of desperation here, rightfully so.
21:49 Up next, Lewis Chadwick, Ben Horne,
21:58 and to say they dislike each other is an understatement.
22:08 Nice shots there from Flood.
22:10 Yeah, there's a good right hand over the top there.
22:12 Oh, and a good body shot too.
22:14 That was the shot for Flood that found success in round number two.
22:21 Sixty seconds remain to sort out their differences.
22:25 Another fight with non-stop punches thrown.
22:30 Both boys very, very fit once again, you can see.
22:33 Good shot from Aiken.
22:35 Wow, look at this. Good shots there from Flood.
22:39 Just when you think it's going one way, the momentum swings, it shifts.
22:45 Flood with a straight right hand, good defence from Aiken.
22:55 Exhausted, but good defence.
22:57 Back against the ropes, Flood.
23:04 It's been a terrific fight.
23:07 Again, evenly matched, that's what ace boxing has done.
23:10 For over 25 years, it's what they do best.
23:14 Give us 50/50 fights.
23:17 Final couple of seconds here in welterweight, Adam Flood.
23:24 Ken Aiken, they have given it their all.
23:28 Yeah, great fight. What a fight.
23:30 Both boys should be very proud, their corner should be very proud.
23:34 They left it all out there.
23:35 We'll be back with the decision shortly right here on 7 Plus.
23:39 This is 7 Plus, this is the premier boxing series.
23:48 Fight number two has just gone down, let's go centering and make it official.
23:57 And we are still waiting for the judges.
24:01 The numbers haven't added up yet.
24:07 The boys having a chat like best mates in centering.
24:12 I dare suggest both are a little nervous.
24:16 Ken Aiken in the red, Adam Flood in the white.
24:21 They have given their all, a cracking fight in the welterweight division.
24:27 And finally, the numbers are in.
24:31 James O'Shea, take it away.
24:33 Alright ladies and gentlemen, let's get set to make this one official.
24:37 First of all, put your hands together for both fighters.
24:39 What a great fight.
24:41 This one proudly brought to you with thanks to Oxworks.
24:45 We go to the judges' scorecards.
24:50 Ladies and gentlemen, Phil Austin scores the bout 58-55 to Aiken.
24:59 Judge Phil Holliday scores the bout 57-56 to Flood.
25:06 Judge Trent Van Galen scores the bout 58-55 to your winner by split decision.
25:15 And it goes to the blue corner, Ken "Babyface" De Sessaen, Aiken.
25:25 A split decision for Ken Aiken.
