00:00 All right, so we have had this discussion a number of times because Mr. Tarantino has
00:04 come on the show a bunch of times and we all know he's notoriously gonna make one more
00:07 film and then he says he's going to be finished.
00:09 Yeah.
00:10 And we're leaving.
00:11 I don't.
00:12 I do.
00:13 I believe him.
00:14 I don't.
00:15 I think he's done very serious about it.
00:16 He's done with film, but it doesn't mean you're gonna tell the TV or write books.
00:19 His books are good.
00:21 At the same time, Mr. Scorsese just came out recently and talked about the weight of time
00:25 and how he feels like he's been racing time to tell as many stories as possible.
00:29 With both of those opinions out there, I'm curious which one you gravitate towards.
00:33 Do you want to have a body of work that you stop or are you going to race time?
00:38 I mean, I think I'm both.
00:41 You know, the truth is I understand both points of view.
00:46 It's very, it's addictive to tell stories in cinema.
00:50 It's really, it's a lot of hard work, but it's very fun.
00:54 It's something you feel driven to do.
00:55 And so it's a little hard to imagine voluntarily stopping.
00:58 And by no means do we want you to.
01:01 This is not a do not.
01:02 We're trying to encourage you.
01:03 No, no, no, do not.
01:04 No, but I also see, you know, Quentin's point has always been that, and he never, very graciously,
01:11 he's never specific about the films he's talking about or whatever, but he's looking at some
01:16 of the work done by filmmakers in later years and feeling that if it can't live up to the
01:22 heyday, it will be better if it didn't exist.
01:27 And I think that's a very purist point of view.
01:31 It's the point of view of a cinephile who, you know, prizes film history.
01:38 But I think, I'm not sure that I would trust my own sense of the absolute value of a piece
01:46 of work to know whether or not it should have been brought into existence.
01:50 I'm a big fan, I mean, as is Quentin, of films that maybe don't fully achieve what they tried
01:57 to, but there's something in there that's a performance or a little structural thing
02:01 or a scene, you know, that's wonderful.
02:05 And so, you know, yes, I understand the thing, wanting to keep a sort of perfect reputation
02:11 or something, but also kind of don't want to take anything off the table.
02:15 Sure.
02:16 With Ridley, if Ridley had stopped at 10, he wouldn't have made Gladiator.
02:20 I think that's where we did the math.
