The Queen has met the Royal Lancers for the first time since being appointed as their Colonel-in-Chief.

She was shown the tunic belonging to her late father, Major Bruce Shand who served in the Second World War, as well as a letter signed by him. Report by Alibhaiz. Like us on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/itn and follow us on Twitter at http://twitter.com/itn

00:00I'm delighted to see that the atmosphere amongst the dancers remains welcoming.
00:30and that you still have a very nice, quietly efficient adjutant,
00:35although I shan't ask about the NCO's capacity for beer.
00:42Now I know you've been particularly busy as you prepare for imminent operational tours to Poland, Kosovo and Cyprus,
00:51and I'm glad that today serves as an opportunity to bring you all together.
00:57My father described the regiment as a highly efficient entity, highly skilled and full of personalities.
01:06I have no doubt that your upcoming deployments will be characteristically successful
01:12and will only add to our regiment's rich history.
01:27Thank you very much.
01:50We hope you might find a home for, that's for you,
01:55and think fondly of us.
02:05As I said, I'm so proud to be the Colonel.
02:09For many, many years I've been hankering to do it.
02:13I know wherever my father is now, he'd be saluting us all today,
02:18and I know he'd be so pleased that I've now got this role.
02:22Thank you very much. I shall treasure this.
02:25Thank you very much indeed.
