00:03 Controversial plans to turn a Derbyshire quarry into a water park resort could be moving closer to a decision after more than two years in limbo.
00:11 BMET Ltd submitted its plans to turn Cright Quarry into a water park resort more than two years ago,
00:18 but now the firm has submitted a flurry of new documents responding to Derbyshire County Council's former notice requesting more information,
00:25 or face the application being rejected.
00:28 The developers who unveiled their plans back in 2019 make clear in their response that the regeneration of the quarry into a water park is still their preferred option.
00:37 However, they said if this fails, the door remains open for its continued use for quarrying, along with the scope for a significant extension of that work.
00:45 That could include either 300,000 tonnes or up to 1.3 million tonnes of further quarrying, it claims.
00:52 It details that the impact of the scheme on the surrounding Derbyshire landscape, including the Cright Stand War Memorial overlooking the quarry,
00:59 would not be significant due to it largely being contained within the quarry itself.
01:04 If approved by Derbyshire County Council, the plans would see the creation of the Amber Rock Resort,
01:09 containing an indoor water park, 152-bed hotel, 128 straw-barrel lodges and 210 holiday apartments,
01:17 along with a climbing centre, heritage centre, a cliff-top restaurant and underground parking for 769 vehicles.
01:24 However, a campaign group of more than 600 people, residents opposed to Amber Rock,
01:29 has responded to the batch of new documents stating it profoundly disagrees with the proposed benefits of the scheme,
01:35 and says that the resort plans will only serve to destroy the quarry setting in search of nothing more than financial gain.
