00:00 "Actually, I was hacked.
00:02 No, I'm kidding."
00:04 "You're kidding.
00:05 You haven't lost your sense of humor."
00:06 Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're looking at comedians whose mouth and/or misdeeds cause
00:13 them to lose some or all of their supporters.
00:16 "So you just have to accept it.
00:17 It's all, and anybody who's been through anything will tell you that acceptance is how you survive
00:22 anything."
00:23 Carlos Mencia.
00:25 Mencia has earned a pretty negative reputation in comedy.
00:29 This bad publicity hasn't been the result of his own jokes either, though his Hurricane
00:34 Katrina comments didn't help.
00:36 Rather, Mencia is disliked because of the plethora of jokes he's been accused of plagiarizing.
00:41 "I can't anymore.
00:42 I can't spend time on that anymore.
00:44 I gotta tell people, 'Look, come and check me out.
00:47 See what I do now.
00:48 See where I'm at now.'"
00:49 The former host of Comedy Central's Mind of Mencia has allegedly stolen material from
00:54 various other comedians, not limited to Ari Shafir, Bobby Lee, and George Lopez.
01:00 "We flash the light so that people know that he's in the audience so you don't do your
01:04 best s***."
01:05 "I would just do crowd work and then Tommy would get mad at me all the time.
01:08 'Why don't you do your set?'
01:09 I'm not gonna do my set in front of that guy."
01:11 "Because he's a notorious joke thief and there were comics, a lot of my good buddies would
01:15 not go on stage if he was in the room."
01:17 After Joe Rogan publicly presented Mencia with video evidence of his misdeeds in 2007,
01:23 the Honduran-born comedian became the laughing stock of the comedy world.
01:28 And not in the way he intended.
01:30 Some even know him as Carlos Mencilia.
01:32 "I'm somebody important enough that he had to end the show by saying Carlos Mencilia.
01:37 That's who I am."
01:38 Brendan Schaub It's hard to lose respect as a comedian when
01:41 some would say you never had any in the first place.
01:48 Brendan Schaub has enjoyed quite the multifaceted career, having found success as a mixed-market
01:53 martial artist, a podcaster, and a stand-up comedian.
01:57 However, not everyone is wild about some of the things Schaub has said behind the mic.
02:02 "Oh, the other thing you should know about Dana Maxson, nobody told me this, there's
02:05 me flaming hot Cheetos all over your house.
02:09 They love them.
02:10 They love them."
02:11 He's generated a lot of criticism for his off-color remarks, which his detractors have
02:16 deemed unfunny and hateful.
02:19 His material aside, the Colorado native has been accused by many of piggybacking off of
02:24 other comics, namely Joe Rogan.
02:27 "I was super fortunate where I was surrounded by guys like you, Callen, Bert, Tom, it's
02:33 just like where I wanted to be in that party."
02:37 Jim Jefferies There's off-color humor, but then there's
02:41 straight-up unethical behavior.
02:42 "What I'm not for is bullshit arguments and lies."
02:47 And unfortunately for Jim Jefferies, he was caught red-handed engaging in the latter on
02:52 his show in 2019.
02:54 The Australian funnyman had acquired a large international fanbase, with several Netflix
02:59 specials and even his own Comedy Central talk show.
03:02 "But I'm not doing this bit to make friends.
03:04 I need some f***ing action, and I know just where to find it."
03:08 But many of his supporters lost their taste for Jefferies when he conducted an interview
03:12 with Abbie Yemeni.
03:14 Jefferies edited his conversation with a Jewish right-wing activist to mislead the audience,
03:19 making Yemeni look like an aggressive racist to suit Jefferies' own narrative.
03:23 Yemeni secretly recorded the actual interview to expose Jefferies' indiscretion.
03:27 "You bloody scumbag, Jim.
03:31 You see those rubbish edits through the entire segment, I don't even need to show you.
03:35 You get my point."
03:36 This didn't exactly support Jefferies' reputation for brutal honesty.
03:41 Chris D'Elia In his earlier years, this New Jersey native
03:44 achieved considerable popularity in the realm of comedy.
04:03 In addition to a fruitful stand-up career, D'Elia can be recognized for hosting a number
04:08 of podcasts, popping up in various sitcoms, and doing a killer impersonation of Eminem
04:13 that notably wowed the rapper himself.
04:19 However, D'Elia fell out of favor in 2020, when several women and underage girls came
04:27 forward with claims D'Elia had abused them and/or behaved in a predatory fashion.
04:48 In response to the allegations, D'Elia was dropped by his agents and managers, not to
04:53 mention lambasted by fellow comedians such as Whitney Cummings and Amy Schumer.
04:58 Steven Ranazzisi Usually when comedians reference 9/11, it's
05:03 in a dark joke.
05:04 While it's a risky topic to joke about, that hasn't stopped edgier comics from working
05:09 it into their material.
05:10 But Steven Ranazzisi's bizarre account about surviving the attack wasn't a joke, it was
05:15 a downright lie.
05:29 Throughout his career, the actor and comedian maintained that he had narrowly escaped death
05:33 in the South Tower, stating that this second chance inspired him to move to Los Angeles
05:39 and follow his dreams of stand-up.
05:52 But after being confronted by a news reporter in 2015, Ranazzisi admitted that he had fabricated
05:57 the entire story.
05:59 The entertainment world hasn't seen much of Ranazzisi since.
06:15 Russell Brand Although his offbeat sense of humour wasn't
06:22 for everyone, this British star was considerably popular for many years… until he wasn't.
06:28 Beginning in the early 2000s, Brand was known for his work on stage and on screen.
06:44 He cracked audiences up in movies like Get Him to the Greek and Forgetting Sarah Marshall,
06:49 turned heads as an MTV presenter in the UK, and was even married to pop star Katy Perry
06:54 for a time.
07:05 But in the fall of 2023, Brand's success came to a screeching halt when a number of
07:10 complaints about his past predatory behaviour surfaced.
07:14 Even though Brand has vehemently denied these allegations, they certainly didn't do his
07:18 standing in Hollywood any favours.
07:31 Louis C.K.
07:51 Not only did C.K. achieve a massive following, but he impressed critics left and right, shooting
07:56 special after special and winning various accolades, including six Emmys and three Peabody
08:02 Awards.
08:03 Then in 2017, multiple people came forward with stories about C.K.'s past inappropriate
08:08 conduct, leading him to release a statement admitting his guilt.
08:21 In addition to losing the love of numerous fans, C.K. was subsequently dumped by his
08:26 publicist, FX, Netflix, and Universal, among other major bodies.
08:32 The scandal also caused his soon-to-be-released film, I Love You Daddy, to be pulled.
08:40 Michael Richards If you're wondering how to destroy your comedy
08:43 career in two minutes, ask Michael Richards.
08:46 He's an old pro.
08:48 Richards won hearts in the 90s as Cosmo Kramer.
08:51 And Jerry's wacky but lovable neighbour on Seinfeld.
09:04 While he also had a moderately successful run as a stand-up comedian, it was his role
09:08 as Kramer that put him in the spotlight.
09:11 That made it all the more shocking when 2006 rolled around, and he directed a vicious racial
09:16 diatribe at some hecklers at the Laugh Factory.
09:26 His incredibly awkward apology on The David Letterman Show didn't exactly reek of sincerity
09:31 either.
09:32 Today, Richards is arguably just as well-known for the Laugh Factory incident as he is for
09:37 his role on Seinfeld.
09:47 Roseanne Barr It's no secret that Roseanne Barr's shtick
09:51 has always revolved around her obnoxiousness.
09:56 It's this rough persona that launched Barr into fame in the first place.
10:00 But there's a fine line between joking and downright bigotry, and people believe that
10:05 Barr crossed that line not just once, but multiple times.
10:09 And that isn't even including her lovely rendition of the National Anthem at a baseball
10:13 game in 1990, which then-President Bush referred to as "disgraceful."
10:18 28 years and a boatload of controversies later, Barr essentially annihilated her career when
10:31 she compared a former Obama administration official to a monkey.
10:36 Although Barr claimed she hadn't meant to be racist, the tweet was enough to get her
10:40 show's reboot canceled and turn former fans against her.

11:09 Bill Cosby If you grew up watching Fat Albert or The
11:13 Cosby Show, this one probably hurts.
11:19 The Philadelphia-born star was a fan favorite for decades, until his career took a nosedive
11:24 in the mid-2010s following multiple sexual assault allegations.
11:29 Dozens of women came forward with claims that Cosby had been committing lewd acts as far
11:34 back as 1965.
11:48 Not only did this news destroy Cosby's wholesome family image, but it led to a well-publicized
11:54 trial, a conviction, and the revocation of various awards and honorary degrees.
12:00 Cosby may have been known as America's dad, but now he's more the creepy uncle who's
12:04 no longer welcome at Thanksgiving.
12:08 Which comedian has lost your respect?
12:10 Let's discuss it in the comments.
