00:00 >> I know a lot of coaches are copycats, do you expect to see them try to-
00:06 >> Of course.
00:06 >> Take some of the stuff from Illinois and use it again?
00:09 >> Hey, that's called professional courtesy.
00:12 So that, hey, that'd only be right if a coach is gonna see something and
00:16 it's not as much copycat as give your guys a chance and
00:19 make sure that the other team fixed it.
00:22 So there's no doubt that they're probably gonna bring some five man fronts,
00:26 which you haven't seen a bunch on film.
00:28 They're primarily a four down, now they will walk their weak side end around,
00:33 but it's not a true odd structure to try and create some confusion.
00:37 So I would imagine it's not hard for them to take one of their linebackers and
00:40 walk them down the line and create a five man front to see if we fix the technical
00:44 issues that we have from a one on one standpoint.
00:46 But ODU, as I told the guys, first and foremost, they're confident.
00:52 They've already beaten the power five.
00:54 They're prideful, they wanna win the state just like we wanna win the state.
00:58 And they gotta leg up on everybody cuz they already got one victory in state.
01:04 They're capable, they're very, very, very capable.
01:07 They've proven that, but then when you watch them on film, defensively,
01:11 I think that collectively they're more athletic than what we saw last week.
01:15 Not quite as big up front, but athletically,
01:18 I mean they got a 6'2" corner that can play anywhere.
01:22 And I mean he can run, he can play man coverage.
01:25 Their linebacker, 42, is a really, really good football player.
01:29 People will look at him and probably underestimate him, but
01:31 he's a really, really good football player.
01:33 He's the heart and soul of that defense.
01:34 Number five is a very athletic defensive lineman.
01:37 They got depth on the D line so they can roll guys in, keep them fresh.
01:40 But I think you can also tell the pride and
01:45 what the football team's about by how their field goal block D plays.
01:48 And they block two field goals, right?
01:50 They block two field goals.
01:51 And that just tells you a lot about a football team when after a defense has
01:54 gotten scored on, or they've allowed them to score in position,
01:57 how hard did they play on that play?
01:58 So they've blocked a couple field goals.
02:01 They've returned kicks for touchdowns.
02:03 They've blocked punts.
02:04 I mean, this is a confident group and you can tell they're having fun and
02:08 they're playing for each other.
02:09 And then offensively, they're sneaky.
02:11 They're sneaky good, okay?
02:13 It doesn't look like it and then boom, here goes a big play, okay?
02:17 Their run game, they'll hit you for two, they'll hit you for three, and boom,
02:21 here goes one for 40, okay?
02:22 So we gotta do a great job on both sides of the ball and
02:26 it's gonna be a good challenge for us.
02:27 So I'm excited for, especially for us offensively because we got a structure
02:32 that's gonna challenge us and athletically they're capable and
02:35 they're gonna come in here confident.
02:36 They have no reason not to be.
02:37 I mean, they're gonna come in here and since there's blood in the water,
02:40 they're gonna come after us.
02:41 So we gotta have our minds in the right place and show up Saturday ready to go.
02:46 >> But the fact that they got tech in week one,
02:49 does that help grab your guys' attention a little?
02:51 >> I mean, no it doesn't because when you turn on the film, they're good.
02:56 They're athletic and they're active.
02:59 The DN number nine, the linebacker number 42, the corner number six,
03:04 those are ACC caliber guys.
03:06 So they got a good team on defense.
03:07 So yeah, did they beat tech?
03:09 That's one thing that happens throughout all of college football.
03:12 But it's one team mindset and with us having to play ODU this week,
03:16 they present enough on film to say, hey boys,
03:18 we locked their guards and we didn't beat them.
03:21 >> As you studied for this game, their quarterback was really shaky for
03:25 the first three quarters against tech.
03:27 Pretty good in the fourth quarter, pretty good the last time out.
03:30 Anything change or anything the defense is too different that has allowed him to
03:33 kind of get rolling?
03:33 >> No, super experienced quarterback that really throws the ball well,
03:39 can see multiple looks and makes good decisions.
03:42 And then again, he doesn't wanna give the ball back.
03:45 So when there's an opportunity that's not there,
03:48 he's more than happy to get rid of that football and live for the next snap.
03:53 >> And what do you see from their run game?
03:54 The Watson fit at 1,000 yards a year ago.
03:56 He's had some good moments so far this year.
03:59 >> Yeah, I mean, I'll tell you what, up front, they do a really, really nice job.
04:03 As far as moving people, they're big.
04:05 They play with power, they play with pad level.
04:07 And we'll have to do a nice job stopping the run.
04:09 That's where it's gonna start for us as we go forward.
