Virginia kicker Brendan Farrell talks about earning a scholarship during fall camp.

00:02 >> It was great.

00:02 It was a validation for all the years I put in here, right?

00:05 So I'm in fourth year now, it's been a while.

00:07 But it's always a dream of a walk on to be able to get that moment.

00:10 And when Coach Elliott said it, he said it in the huddle actually,

00:13 inside to go out and make a kick.

00:14 And one of the most pressure kicks I've had, but it was great.

00:19 Went in, got mobbed by my teammates, it was a great feeling.

00:22 Sorry, can you repeat yourself?

00:23 >> Yeah, how far?

00:24 >> 48.

00:25 So it was a good bit, it was fun.

00:27 >> Who did you tell first?

00:31 >> My parents.

00:32 >> What was their reaction?

00:33 >> They were thrilled.

00:35 My mom was at work, so we had to do a group FaceTime.

00:37 But they were thrilled, cuz they've always been by my side, so

00:41 they knew what it was like.

00:42 And my sister was there too on the phone call, so it was phenomenal.

00:44 >> So that kick, you knew going in what was on?

00:48 >> So I had no clue, but we were doing a two minute drill.

00:53 And we got down there and the offense called timeout.

00:55 And then typical defense goes in, they try to ice the kicker.

00:59 And so Coach Elliott comes in the huddle, it's only the 11 of us right now.

01:03 He goes, all right guys, how about if a man from makes this,

01:06 he gets on scholarship.

01:06 And everyone was kind of stunned for a second, like what's going on?

01:09 And I won't repeat what I thought in my head.

01:11 But it was, yeah, so I went out there and made it.

01:14 And the offense was the only one to do, so the defense was booing the whole time.

01:18 They had no clue.

01:19 And guys came up and apologized after, cuz they didn't know it was such a big kick.

01:23 So it was great, it worked out really well.

01:25 And like I said, my pressure going could have worked out.

01:28 >> Did they ice you twice?

01:29 >> No, so we called timeout on offense just to get out there and get set.

01:32 Cuz two minute drill, so we got down the range.

01:35 So the defense just iced us once, which I don't think the defense had a timeout, but

01:39 Coach Elliott might have found one in his back pocket, so.
