00:00In advance of the NFL draft, Trayvon Walker is partnering with USAA, NFL official salute
00:05to serve as partner, to discuss how his military upbringing has helped him both on and off
00:10the field.
00:11I'm Robert Lundberg, and Trayvon Walker joins me right now.
00:13Trayvon, when it comes to that, your father was in the Marines.
00:18How did that impact your football upbringing?
00:20I just have to say my father being in the Marines, it helped shape me into the man that
00:25I am now.
00:27More specific things I can just go off of right now, my dad, he was one of the ones
00:32that wakes up early every morning.
00:34So as a little kid, I'm a young guy, and I used to like always being under my dad.
00:39So I know that I used to always get up early and be with my father wherever he went.
00:45You put that work in early.
00:46Yeah, definitely.
00:47With that transition, going into college, like having a lot of 6am, things of that nature,
00:52it wasn't as hard for me to get up as it was for other guys to get up.
00:56So I feel like that was one of the main things that played a big part in my transition, as
01:02well as the discipline that my dad displayed on me.
01:06My dad was very big on me on discipline growing up, and that's something that's always stuck with me.
01:15I know there's a video about your partnership with USAA up on your Twitter, and I've seen
01:21you talk about your love of football, but I was looking at your social accounts, and
01:25every post is football.
01:27Do you think that's going to help you stay out of some of these social media controversies
01:31we see nowadays?
01:32Most definitely.
01:33I'm the type of person, I'm not big on media, so I just like to stay in my own lane.
01:39I post what I want you to see, and if I don't want you to see something, you won't see it.
01:44But for the most part, I love the game of football, I base my life around football.
01:48So that's basically all you'll see, because that's all I do.
01:51So whatever team drafts you, won't have to worry about you scrubbing them from your account
01:55at some point?
01:56No, sir.
01:57No, sir.
02:01Your versatility is something that a lot of people have talked about going into the draft.
02:05What is the biggest challenge to be able to play multiple positions, and why do you think
02:09it'll be beneficial at the next level?
02:11I just have to say the most challenging part about it would have to be just learning exactly
02:16what everybody else around you has to do.
02:18But for me, doing it early on, that made me learn the whole defense a lot easier, and
02:25just knowing what people around me were doing.
02:27So if anybody ever had a question for me, especially the guys in the box, I pretty much
02:32knew everybody's job, so I could be one of those reliable resources you can come to and
02:36ask for help and things of that nature.
02:39So obviously coaching helps there.
02:41Just to stoke the fires a little bit, why is Kirby Smart better than Nick Sabanth?
02:47Kirby, he's younger.
02:48I will say that personally.
02:49Nothing to do with Nick Sabanth being a little up in age, he's definitely a legend.
02:55But Coach Smart, he's younger, he's basically, you can't say he's one of the C's, so Coach
02:59Sabanth learned from the great.
03:01And with learning from the great, of course, all you can do is just elevate, you never
03:05want to stay the same.
03:06So with Kirby, I just feel like he's getting better and better, and learning a lot of the
03:10new things for the younger generation of football coming along.
03:14You know, there are reports that you could go as high as number one overall in the draft,
03:19and the Jaguars GM just said they're considering four players with that pick.
03:23So how do you like Jacksonville?
03:24Jacksonville, I like it once I've visited there.
03:28It's not too far from home, only four hours away from home, so I know my mom, she'll love
03:33that.
03:34She'll be able to get to me whenever she really needs to.
03:36But Jacksonville, the whole coaching staff, things of that nature, I love it.
03:42What would it mean to you to be the number one overall pick?
03:45It would definitely mean a lot to me.
03:46That's one of the things that I've always dreamed of ever since I was a little kid.
03:52So did every other kid, but if that dream was to come true, that would be something
03:56that I'll never forget.
03:57And no telling if I'll cry or won't cry, it's just an in-the-moment type thing.
04:02Hey, you'd be perfectly justified if you did cry.
04:05A good cry is good to see.
04:08But why should you be the first player selected in your mind?
04:12I have to say, just my versatility, I'm a guy that you can depend on, I'm very dependable,
04:18I'm a hard worker, I'm passionate about what I do, and I take this game very serious.
04:23You love to hit people, and everybody loves rankings, but I want a quick ranking from
04:28you.
04:29Who are the top five quarterbacks you're most looking forward to sacking?
04:35Tom Brady, Colin Murray, Russell Wilson, Joe Burrow definitely, Cam Newton, I have to say.
04:48We'll see if Cam's on the field for you, but you put a definitely there about Joe Burrow.
04:52Was there something extra about that one?
04:54Yeah, it's a little personal with me with Joe Burrow.
04:58He got me pretty good in the 2019 SEC Championship, so yeah, that's always been on my mind.
05:04When I was a young boy, freshman then.
05:06So you're coming for revenge?
05:09Most best believe that.
05:12Look out Joe Burrow, look out NFL, Trayvon Walker partnering with USAA, the official
05:17salute to service partner of the NFL.
05:19You can check out the work they're doing on Trayvon's Twitter page, Trayvon, really appreciate
05:23your time.
05:24Thank you all for having me.
