A key play early in Duke's season-opening loss at Notre Dame was the Irish pulling off a fake punt deep in their own territory. David Cutcliffe walks through the play.

00:00We're just trying to double and get a return and we didn't force the edge.
00:04We forced through the middle and they did a good job.
00:07So they had seen it on the previous pump.
00:09We tried to get away with it twice and they caught us.
00:12Not necessarily, no, I just think it was a big play.
00:16When what happens is, and it's hard for any defense.
00:19When you convert a fourth down, or certainly with a fake pump convert one,
00:24it's hard to go back on the field with the same energy.
00:27So I would say the biggest part of it is our defense got tired through that period.
00:34Well, let's just start on defense.
00:36We're pretty veteran up front.
00:39All our linebackers played well, made plays.
00:42And that was an area that we wanted to see happen early.
00:45And I think our secondary is gonna be outstanding.
00:48We gotta continue to grow our depth.
00:51But I thought some of our young people played well.
00:53We rotated and tried to play a lot of people.
00:56So I see them every day, obviously, and I think we can be outstanding there.
01:01I think our young specialists can be outstanding players.
01:05Our base kicker, our punter, our return game, all is there in the kicking game.
01:10And offensively, we've got backs, we've got tight ends, we've got receivers.
01:15And we've got quarterbacks, but I'll speak to Chase.
01:18We got a quarterback who'll make a lot of plays for us.
01:21So I think we've got an exciting time in front of us, I really do.
01:25Thank you.
01:26We'll be right back.
01:27Thank you for watching.
01:28We'll be right back.
