US students continue pro-Palestinian protests at Columbia University

Students continue to hold pro-Palestinian protests at Columbia University in New York, with some camping out to show solidarity with the people of Gaza.

"Everyone was here showing out for each other and for the Palestinian people," says D.P., one student at the camp who only gave her initials.

Other students express concerns about campus safety and point to anti-Semitic incidents.

"A person was yelling at me, screaming at me, calling me a Zionist and a murderer," says Melissa Saidak, a student at Columbia University's School of Social Work.

00:20 You say, "No!"
00:21 We want justice, you say!
00:23 So as a Palestinian, is it my responsibility to be here and to show my solidarity with the people in Gaza?
00:29 Absolutely.
00:30 And I will continue to do that each and every day because of how important it is to bring awareness to everything going on in Gaza.
00:39 I mean, like, everyone was here showing out for each other and for, like, the Palestinian people.
00:47 And, like, I just couldn't stand the thought of not being at camp because I was just, like, the whole time thinking, like,
00:53 "What if something goes wrong? Like, what if I could have done something to help?"
00:57 Like, I don't know. Like, I think that this whole place is only working because everyone is putting everything that they have into it.
01:05 Several people, Jewish people, were assaulted.
01:16 I, myself, was also harassed.
01:18 I, you know, a person was yelling at me, screaming at me, calling me a Zionist and a murderer.
01:26 And they were banging, like, a pot or something.
01:30 It was creating such a loud noise. It was causing me a lot of physical pain.
01:33 This was just me trying to get home.
01:35 We feel right now the campus has been overtaken by a rather extreme ideology.
01:41 And I think it's so sad because a lot of us, and I think what hurts a lot of us, too, is that we, a lot of us, really care about the idea of, like, Palestinian liberation and a free Palestine.
01:52 Like, a lot of us really want to see a Palestinian state.
