00:00 Reigning Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes is now a part owner of the Royals MLB franchise.
00:08 Joining me now from Arrowhead Report is Joshua Briscoe. Joshua, at 24, Mahomes became the youngest quarterback to win the Super Bowl MVP.
00:16 Then he signed a 10-year, $503 million contract. And now he's a part owner of the Kansas City Royals. 2020 might just be Mahomes' year.
00:26 Yeah, he's the only one having a good 2020. And this is just, I mean, it's been an incredible run.
00:32 So he said this is the contract, it's the Super Bowl, Super Bowl MVP, the year after winning the MVP.
00:37 I've said this multiple times and every time I say it, it becomes more true.
00:41 He's had the best start to a career in any, from anyone I can think of in the history of American sports and maybe all sports ever.
00:48 Like it is just, it's been an absolute rocket ship for Mahomes these first few years and clearly not slowing down at all.
00:54 He said in an interview he hadn't really bought anything super exciting until recently. Now what he's bought is a share of the Kansas City Royals.
01:02 No big deal. But let's talk about baseball. So he's been around baseball clubhouses growing up.
01:08 His father played in the MLB for 11 years, his godfather played.
01:11 And some people might not know this about Mahomes, but he was actually drafted to the Tigers. The offer was made back in 2014.
01:18 Yeah, he was the 37th round pick. And there's been a ton made about his basketball abilities, his baseball for sure.
01:26 There was some talk for a while, especially in high school, football was his third sport.
01:29 That was like clearly bronze on his medal stand. And yeah, he grew up in MLB clubhouses, like you said, with his father and his godfather.
01:37 There are stories all over the place. We've written about it on Arrowhead Report, of how he was trying to learn from A-Rod and Derek Jeter
01:44 and how his mentality totally changed even from a young age on trying to be excellent in professional sports,
01:50 more so than just trying to shag flies in the outfield or whatever.
01:53 It's been a very, very fun story for Mahomes that now culminates with him being a new kind of two-sport athlete, I suppose, here in Kansas City,
02:02 where he's the quarterback on one side of the parking lot and on the other side, he's a part owner of the Royals.
02:06 Pretty incredible at 24 years. What a year for Mahomes. We're happy for him. Thank you so much for the insight, Joshua. Appreciate it.
02:12 Anytime.
