00:00 Emmanuel Macron really wants to put on a good show for the Olympic Games and a strike is
00:04 not part of the plan.
00:06 Now earlier this month we had the French Senate that passed a bill which would essentially
00:12 allow the government to ban strikes taking place during certain times of the year.
00:17 For example, the Olympic Games, which run from the end of July to early August.
00:22 However, that bit of legislation will next go to the National Assembly, where it's expected
00:28 to face an uphill battle.
00:31 We do have, for instance, the RATP, which is the rail service provider for the Greater
00:36 Paris Region that has issued a seven-month strike notice.
00:40 They did that in February and that strike notice runs all the way to September.
00:44 So it essentially allows them to go on strike.
00:48 Now we're not sure what exactly air traffic controllers plan on doing because we don't
00:54 know the terms they agreed to yesterday because they had threatened to strike in the month
00:59 of May because here in France in the month of May we have many public holidays and they
01:04 have threatened to strike during long weekends in May.
01:07 So we'll have to see if we expect disruptions to take place in the run-up to the Olympics.
