00:00Sergio Godinho was in Canada the moment the Portuguese revolution began.
00:08As a resistance singer, he was living in exile when he released his third studio album.
00:14Since then, he has established himself as one of the main voices of free and democratic
00:19Portugal.
00:22Planning a series of concerts to commemorate 50 years of freedom, he spoke to Euronews
00:27about how he experienced April 25th, the change, and where modern Portugal has yet to go in
00:33terms of rights and freedoms.
01:28His song, Freedom, which was recorded in 1974, became an anthem of the Portuguese left.
01:37For him, the lyrics of Freedom have not lost any of their relevance, and the result of
01:43the last elections in Portugal, where right-wing party Chega scored high, have given him a
01:48cause for concern about the future of the country.
01:58It's really a scary and worrying thing.
02:04Even the degree of adherence to my concerts, I feel it has to do with the fact that people
02:12are a little scared and have the need to congregate and react.
02:18Sergio Godinho is touring the country with his concert.
02:22In addition to his major dates at the Coliseums in Lisbon and Porto, he has played in various
02:27symbolic spots in Portugal.
02:30During his tour dates, he will perform several of his songs that are well-known throughout
02:34Portugal and have become symbols of the left.
