2020 NFL First Half Awards (MVP, ROY, Coach)
Transcript
00:00We're heading into week nine of the NFL season,
00:03which means many teams are halfway through.
00:05So what better time to hand out some awards?
00:08I'm here now with Bill Enright.
00:09And Bill, let's go through MVP, Rookie of the Year
00:12and Coach of the Year,
00:13starting with most valuable player.
00:15Who you got?
00:17You gotta give it to Russell Wilson.
00:18It's incredible that this guy has never received
00:20a single MVP vote throughout his career,
00:23but he is the hands-down leader for 2020.
00:26If you look at his touchdowns,
00:2726 touchdowns in seven games, Robin.
00:30That is the second most in NFL history
00:32and trails only Tom Brady by one.
00:35That was back in 2007,
00:37when Brady had 50 touchdowns that year.
00:40So Russell Wilson on a record-setting pace
00:42and the Seahawks are playing great on offense.
00:44And it's all because they're letting Russ cook.
00:47I'm not mad at that,
00:48but I'm actually gonna go Patrick Mahomes.
00:49Only one interception on the season,
00:51a higher QBR than Russell Wilson.
00:53I'm imagining he'll close the gap on touchdowns.
00:55And he sort of reached that LeBron James level for me,
00:58where I'm like, yeah, he's kind of the MVP every season.
01:01So I'm gonna give it to Mahomes.
01:03How about Rookie of the Year?
01:05I really like Joe Burrow.
01:06If you look what he's done in terms of passing the football,
01:08he has 221 completions already.
01:12That is the most by a quarterback
01:14in the first eight games of their career.
01:17I think the Bengals shocked a lot of people
01:19by beating the Titans this past weekend,
01:21perhaps Burrow's best game of his young career.
01:24And I really like what the Bengals are doing,
01:27both on offense and what their head coach has, Joe Burrow,
01:30kind of loosening up those reins a little bit.
01:34Yeah, I mean, look, I'm gonna agree with you.
01:35There's a case to be made for Justin Herbert,
01:37but I feel like Burrow is having to elevate more
01:40with that Bengals squad.
01:42So let's go to Coach of the Year.
01:43Who's your pick there?
01:45The easy one would be Mike Tomlin, right?
01:47The Steelers are the only undefeated team in the NFL.
01:51Tomlin, a long historic year
01:55by becoming the all-time winning African-American coach
01:58just this past weekend.
01:59He surpasses Tony Dungy,
02:01but I'm actually gonna go with Frank Reich
02:04of the Indianapolis Colts.
02:05I mean, they're five and two.
02:06Last year, they finished seven and nine.
02:07I think Reich is actually one of the most
02:10underappreciated coaches in the entire National Football
02:13League.
02:14If you look at what he has to work with,
02:16it's not like Phillip Rivers is a spring chicken.
02:19They don't have a ton of playmakers on offense,
02:21but yet they're winning games
02:23and they're only second in the AFC South right now.
02:26Yeah, the Eagles probably missing him a little bit, right?
02:29But you said Mike Tomlin was the easy pick?
02:31That's because it's the correct pick.
02:33I'm going with Mike Tomlin,
02:35given that the Steelers are undefeated this season.
