00:00 Hey there, Chargers reporter for Sports Illustrated for Niner Ramirez here.
00:03 Chargers just lost their second consecutive game.
00:07 They lost a turnover battle, simple as that.
00:09 Anthony Lynn has been praising all offseason,
00:11 we need to win the turnover battle.
00:13 They did not do that again for the second straight game.
00:16 Last week against Kansas City, they had one turnover.
00:19 Today they had three, a fourth at the end of the game, but
00:22 it was three in the first half.
00:24 One was a Justin Herber got strip sacked by Brian Burns.
00:27 Good play by Burns, the Panthers had the Chargers offensive line at
00:32 the beginning of the game, they kept on making plays.
00:35 Then the Chargers start making a little bit of noise,
00:39 Austin Eckler gets a touchdown.
00:41 Right after that, the Chargers are getting momentum.
00:44 And Joshua Kelly fumbles the ball and it's kind of like the Chargers are looking
00:48 around kind of like, okay, come on, let's get something.
00:51 Before halftime, Justin Herber throws an ill-advised
00:55 interception to Dante Jackson.
00:58 He brings it back to the 66 yard line, Herber comes in, hits him,
01:01 tackles him down and they made them pay.
01:04 The Panthers had 13 points off of Chargers turnovers.
01:08 Second half, the Chargers offense started moving a little bit better.
01:11 Keenan Allen said after the game, we have to get off to bigger starts.
01:15 Chargers have only scored, they scored two touchdowns in the first game.
01:18 No, one touchdown in the first game, two in the second and two today.
01:21 They need to score more touchdowns and that's what Anthony Lynn is getting at,
01:25 is that the team needs to score more.
01:26 Also, in the second half, they started gaining more momentum.
01:33 And Justin Herber hit a very nice touchdown pass to Keenan Allen.
01:39 And this was at the end of the game.
01:41 They kind of drained the clock, six minute drive, that kind of killed them.
01:47 Joey Bosa comes up with a clutch sack at the end of the game to
01:51 tap the Panthers punt back to the Chargers.
01:54 Right, the Chargers get the ball back at their own one yard line.
01:59 Justin Herbert drives them almost the length of the field to the 28 yard line.
02:02 Herbert hits a pass to Keenan Allen.
02:05 Keenan Allen pitches it back to Austin Eggler.
02:07 It looks like a straight shot at the end zone for a game winning touchdown.
02:11 And unfortunately, it does not.
02:13 Keenan Allen and Austin Eggler had some miscommunication on that pitch.
02:18 And they just couldn't get the job done.
02:19 Chargers falling out at one and two.
02:21 Next week, they have a pretty tough game.
02:25 I was about to say Tom Brady and the Patriots, but no.
02:28 It is Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
02:31 It should be an interesting game.
02:32 We don't know yet if Tyra Taylor is gonna play or not.
02:36 But if not, it'll be the veteran quarterback of 21 years against
02:39 the rookie quarterback, Justin Herbert.
02:42 Again, Justin Herbert, he made plays.
02:45 He made some good plays today.
02:47 It's just at the end of the day, they couldn't get past the turnovers.
02:50 And that's what killed them.
02:52 Also, the Chargers didn't run the ball as effectively as they would have wanted.
02:55 And they had been doing the first two games of the season.
02:58 So it'll be interesting to see what transpires for this week's content.
03:02 Make sure you tune in cuz I'm gonna have some of the best stuff this week.
03:05 I'm Chargers reporter Fernando Ramirez from Sports Illustrated.
03:09 Thank you and good night.
