00:00Well, the date for the 2020 NBA draft has not yet been set.
00:05It's still not too soon to start talking about some mock drafts.
00:08So joining me now is SI NBA draft insider Jeremy Wu.
00:12And Jeremy, I want to start with Anthony Edwards.
00:14He's a top year mock draft.
00:16What makes him so clearly the number one prospect?
00:19Yeah, to me, it's been Edwards all year.
00:23I think that based on where the NBA is headed in terms of perimeter scorers who can kind
00:29of do a few different things and sort of impact the game a few different ways, Edwards is
00:33really raw.
00:34But I think he has the best chance of doing that.
00:36You have to consider how young he is, the improvement he's made in the last year or
00:42so.
00:43He did make a lot of strides at Georgia just based on what I saw in high school.
00:46I don't know if every NBA team is saying, hey, he's the consensus number one.
00:51But I think that if it were me picking and for a lot of teams, he will be the best fit
00:57there.
00:58So I think James Wiseman, LaMelo Ball, both in play for that pick, but it really depends
01:03on the lottery.
01:04And we had to finish season first, so a lot's going to change, I think.
01:08But for now.
01:09Yeah, seeing who lands where is a big priority as well.
01:12But you've got James Wiseman at number two.
01:15And is the small sample size of what we've seen of his collegiate ball an issue at all?
01:23For me, no.
01:24I mean, it doesn't really help.
01:26I think in terms of just projection, there's enough on tape between, you know, if you watch
01:32him in high school or if you got a chance to see him, then, you know, three games isn't
01:36great statistically.
01:37It's not really a great statistical indicator, but, you know, it's obvious, you know, he's
01:40big, he runs the floor, you know, he does he does things that are translatable for a
01:45seven footer.
01:46You know, he's huge.
01:47You know, I was at Memphis Pro Day back in October.
01:51I think it was.
01:52And, you know, I got a chance to see him then.
01:54You know, I don't know if I'm saying he's going to be a star, but I think, you know,
01:58he definitely is going to be serviceable.
02:00It's just a matter of, you know, how badly do you need a center, which is sort of a hot
02:04question right now.
02:05Now, another guy who's been kind of sliding up and down in the lottery picks of mock drafts
02:10and in your mock drafts is Denny Avdia.
02:12He's an interesting prospect.
02:15What is your assessment of him right now?
02:17Yeah, I think teams are all over the board with him.
02:22You know, some see the upside in that, you know, he's a big guy with potential playmaking
02:27skills.
02:28You might be able to play both forward spots.
02:32You know, me personally, I'm a little bit less sold on him just because I would like
02:35to see him do more in terms of creating his own offense in the half court.
02:40You know, he didn't really play at a high, much at a high level, you know, and he played
02:45some early games, but, you know, primarily in the Israeli league, which is not as great
02:48of competition.
02:50So, you know, I would be hesitant to peg him as a guy who's ready to play now, like contribute
02:56a ton right away.
02:57But I think the hope is that, you know, based on what people have seen with him playing
03:00for Israel, that he can, you know, be sort of a secondary playmaker if he works on his
03:05ball handling and he has to shoot it better as well.
03:08So, you know, you know, there's definitely like an interesting mold for him to be a contributor
03:12like that.
03:13That much is obvious.
03:14But it's just a matter of, you know, do you think he gets there?
03:16You know, will his athleticism, his skill level?
03:18You know, how much will that improve?
03:20But you know, for a lot of teams, that's a position that, you know, having an extra playmaker
03:24in the front court is going to help.
03:27Yeah.
03:28A lot of things, I'm sure, will change between now and the draft whenever it is.
03:32But Jeremy Wu, I know you'll be on top of these mock drafts leading up until the real
03:36one.
03:37As Jeremy Wu says, thanks for the insight.
03:38Thanks.
03:39No problem.
