00:00Hi, my name is Melissa Ruhl and I'm the Lakers beat reporter for Sports Illustrated.
00:03We just watched the Lakers lose a game to Portland that had absolutely nothing to do
00:07with the game.
00:08Tonight was about Kobe Bryant.
00:10We talked to Anthony Davis and LeBron James after the game.
00:12They made their first public comment since Kobe Bryant died on Sunday.
00:16Anthony Davis talked about how he was really anxious heading into tonight's game.
00:21Knowing what tonight was going to be, it was just an emotional game for all of us.
00:29Obviously, we want to do our best to make them proud.
00:34Obviously there was so much sadness, so much emotion over the last week and so much anticipation
00:40for tonight.
00:41It's emotional.
00:42It's tough.
00:43The entire memorial before the game was tough for me to see.
00:50And then just to hear his voice and have it come to realization that he's gone.
00:56He had a really good game, scored 37 points, had 15 rebounds.
01:00He said he wanted to just come out and play as hard as he could for Kobe.
01:04There were a lot of tears and there were a lot of hugs on Friday night, but the Lakers
01:08got through it.
01:09There were a lot of beautiful tributes to Kobe Bryant and all of the players had him
01:12in their hearts the entire game.
01:14I was telling my wife a couple of days ago, I was like, you know, seeing Kobe play the
01:18game of basketball for 20 years for the Lakers, you know, since he was 18 to 38.
01:25And I was like, you know, it's crazy.
01:26She was like, what?
01:27I was like, you know what?
01:28These last three years, out of all the success he had, five rings, multiple MVPs, an all-star
01:35game MVP, that is league, first team, everything, all life, all world, all basketball, it felt
01:42like these last three years was the happiest I ever seen him.
