00:00 Welcome to Leeds, this is our third fight of the evening, it's lightweight contest between Josh Padley and Clayton Bricknell
00:11 and I'm looking forward to this one, looking forward to seeing Josh Padley, the current Central Area Lightweight Champion
00:18 impressed very much in his first 11 fights
00:23 I'll tell you what though, he's got to be careful here because Clayton in his last fight had a very impressive win, he had the first round knockout
00:30 over Joe Underwood Hughes, which was very impressive, so Josh Padley here just needs to stay switched on
00:37 First round as well, I'll tell you what, Joe Underwood Hughes is no slouch, he's a good fighter, so what a result that was for Clayton
00:48 so like you say, I'm sure Josh has seen that too and he knows what he's up against
00:55 Yeah, Josh is a quality fighter, 11 fights undefeated now and he's moving up the rankings
01:02 Got a good win against Jimmy First when he won the Central Area title
01:10 It was a good fight that by all accounts, it was not recorded that but it was a great fight and what a night it was for Josh and his coach Ian Alcock
01:21 based in Doncaster, he's Josh, you know a bit about him, have you, from the area, someone who's making waves now
01:29 Yeah and I think that win over Jimmy First really put him on the map, because that's a solid win that on his resume
01:35 Yeah, because at the time Jimmy First was undefeated, it was a real fight and it was a very very impressive win
01:43 He's travelled up from Wolverhampton, Clayton
01:47 Oh, what's to say that, he's on the canvas
01:51 Left up, Dan
01:58 Yeah, nice little left up, went from the body and then to the head
02:01 Looking for the finish now
02:03 He's looking for the openings here and he's got
02:06 Referee having a close look
02:09 Just got to be careful not to smother his own work, take a little step back and have a look, pick your shots
02:19 Keeping his guard tight, not many of them
02:22 He's fighting back Clayton, brave off the ropes, Josh is really piling on the pressure here
02:29 Again the referee's taking a look but he's
02:31 Clayton needs to throw back, he needs to throw back otherwise the referee's going to jump him
02:37 Little uppercut inside there from Josh, clever work
02:45 Corner just, I'd like to see him just step off here, get a bit of space, not smother any of it
02:51 Yeah, smothering his work a little bit, if he steps back you'll be able to see the shots that are there
02:55 In particular the uppercut
02:58 Left hook again, going to the body as well
03:00 He's looking for them openings
03:05 Good first round Arvi
03:07 Oh yeah, definitely
03:09 Again, sinking and punches in
03:12 Solid body shot
03:13 Fair play to Clayton, he's hanging in there and he's throwing back, tough man
03:18 Good fight
03:20 Some of these really hurtful shots
03:22 Good first round there, fantastic first round
03:25 Well done, well done
03:27 Round two
03:52 Round number two and if the first round is anything to go by, we're in for a gunner to come on here
03:58 And he's straight on the front foot again Josh
04:00 Really good opening round for Josh, I just feel he's smothered his work a little bit when he hurt Clayton
04:06 But he's started again, he's positive, I think he's really fancying this now
04:10 Only got the one stoppage but he's had Jimmy first on the floor
04:14 And looks to me here like he's got a bit of power
04:18 I mean Clayton there, he's got a record of four, eight and one
04:21 He shows he comes to fight, win lose record
04:23 But he's always there, he's not coming to do the rounds, he's coming in to fight and do his best
04:30 Well you look at that first round, he was hurt, he was under pressure on the ropes
04:33 But he found a way to stick in there and he was fighting back
04:36 Big big heart
04:38 Josh is an electrician by day, fully qualified electrician
04:45 Works hard in the day, straight to the gym at night
04:48 I don't know how long that's going to go on if he starts going up through the levels
04:51 Well depending on what rankings you follow, Boxrec have got him at number nine now
04:56 So he is climbing the rankings in Britain
04:59 And I'm sure that, like obviously he won the Central Area title
05:03 I'm sure there's bigger titles on the horizon for him
05:06 From Doncaster, produced some good boxers over the years that area
05:11 He's coach Ian Alcock, he's a very very experienced man
05:15 Been around the game years, he's trained everybody, trained Henry Akinwande
05:19 Danny Williams in the past
05:22 A few names on the tip of my tongue there but you know what I'm talking about
05:29 Silky Jones I remember, Silky Jones was one of them
05:31 But a lot of fighters, too many to mention
05:34 He's got good people behind him and he's got this trajectory to do well
05:39 He's a really determined character
05:41 Yeah there's some good fighters out there for him like Corey Gibbs
05:45 Number eight on Boxrec, he's eight in a one, be a good fighter for him
05:49 Rhys Mould obviously fighting tomorrow against Cully
05:53 But there's some really good fighters for him
05:56 Rhys Mould, that would be some local derby wouldn't it
05:59 If Rhys comes through as well, eventually down the line
06:03 100% two Yorkshire men going at it
06:06 Would definitely sell a few tickets
06:08 It's a hot division and a lightweight division
06:10 But he looks good, he looks like he's got the skills
06:13 Like we just said in the film, I like Josh here
06:16 Just take the centre ring, get his distance, use his jab a bit
06:22 He knows he can hurt him, so let's start picking him apart now
06:25 He's got eight rounds here
06:27 So let's see some of what he's been learning in the gym
06:31 And I think if he picks his shots Dan, we might see something similar to the first round
06:37 What I think is positive for Josh here is Clayton's coming forward
06:40 He's trying to fight, he's throwing his shots
06:42 So there's a chance stylish boxer like Josh can land his counter shots
06:46 And he's just landed that left hook again
06:48 Clayton got a good right in there as well
06:51 So he's still there and after that first round
06:54 The terror has done well to survive into the third
06:57 Seconds out, round three
07:18 Round number three from Leeds
07:22 It's a Mark Bateson show in association with GSW
07:28 And we've got Josh Padley in against Clayton Bricknell in the lightweight division
07:34 Padley the current central area champion at the weight
07:37 And Clayton Bricknell from Wolverhampton
07:41 He's come up here to Leeds tonight and he's not going to go over easy
07:45 He's down in the first, but he's here in the third
07:48 And he's still giving it his best
07:50 He's no mug, he comes to fight
07:53 And he can cause an upset as well
07:56 Fantastic uppercut there from Josh
07:58 Yeah he timed that perfectly didn't he when he was coming in
08:01 Came right up the sweet spot
08:03 But he's still firing back
08:08 He's showing his heart really here isn't he
08:11 I'll tell you what, it's testament to Clayton's toughness that he's still in there
08:14 He's been caught with some really good shots
08:16 But he's firing back, he's really making a fight of it
08:18 He really is
08:20 The terror in here, you can see he comes for a fight
08:23 And in his last fight he did cause a terror with that big knockout of Joe Hughes
08:28 He is, no disrespect, limited in his skills as a pro fighter
08:35 But you can see he's got so much in him
08:37 So much determination to hang in there
08:40 But you know, you know someone like Josh, you can see the difference in their class
08:50 There's a big difference in class and I think that's what I can see
08:54 But Clayton is very, very tough
08:56 He's strong, he looks like he can punch
08:59 But in terms of skill, Josh is just a bit too much for him
09:02 He's just a bit too classy, he's picking his shots quite well
09:05 But do you know what, for Josh, as he continues his career
09:08 And builds some momentum and moves up the rankings
09:10 Fights like this are pretty good for him
09:12 Yes
09:14 Give him the rounds, hopefully give him the rounds
09:16 Give him a bit of a test
09:18 And then he'll come through this, he'll look to push up the levels
09:21 He knows he probably thought he had it done in the first round
09:25 And then he gets up and he's still there
09:27 Yeah and that can really take it out of you can't it
09:31 Because you think you've finished your opponent
09:33 And then you go for the kill
09:36 It's funny, sometimes a knockdown can be the worst thing for a fighter
09:41 Because what happens is suddenly the game plan goes out the window
09:44 And they start looking for the stoppage
09:46 And I think there's probably an element of that with Josh for the first round
09:49 But in this third round now, he's got his composure
09:52 He's picking his shots, he's looking for the openings
09:54 And we talked about the difference in class
09:56 He's trying to make the difference in class tell now
09:59 And he's trying to walk Clayton onto the shots
10:02 But Clayton's always going to make it tough
10:04 He's that sort of fighter, he's a bit awkward and orthodox
10:08 He's strong, he can punch a little bit
10:10 And he's very, very game as well
10:12 You see Josh looking for them big punches
10:17 Like we said, I think Ian might say now
10:19 Get behind that jab now and he'll start to box his kick
10:23 [crowd noise]
10:46 Seconds out, round four
10:49 [bell rings]
10:51 Round number four from Leeds
10:53 It's Paddy, Josh Padley
10:56 Against the terror Clayton Bricknell
10:59 Who had a bit of terror in the first round but has come back really well
11:02 And he's making a good account of himself here
11:05 Against the Central Area Lightweight Champion
11:07 Title not on the line tonight
11:10 And do you know what, Clayton's giving a good account of himself, like you say
11:14 Josh is having to work here, he's having to go to the tool box
11:18 And find some skills and I'm glad about that as well
11:22 For me, if Josh would have got the victory in the first round
11:25 It would have been great for the fans but maybe not so much for his development
11:28 I'm glad he's getting the rounds and I'm glad questions are being asked of him
11:32 Absolutely
11:33 It would be a good fight to work on distance
11:41 And footwork against an opponent like this
11:45 Because like I said, he knows he can hurt him, he knows he can get through
11:49 We just need to get that jab off, keep that distance a bit
11:53 And I think the openings will come
11:55 I think you're right, he's had 11 fights
11:59 He's still relatively inexperienced even though he's highly ranked
12:02 And I think what it's shown tonight is he was smothering his work a little bit
12:07 He's a very, very classy fighter
12:09 When he gets behind that jab he keeps it sort of mid to long range
12:12 He's an excellent fighter
12:14 Just think sometimes when he gets in close
12:16 He's fighting Clayton's fight and it's not always working for him
12:20 But like you say, these fights you want them to be learning fights
12:24 You don't want him to go and blast them out
12:26 You want something for him to go back to the gym, his coach to go back to the gym
12:29 Learn and improve and then the next time we come out we see a better Josh Padley
12:43 He's sure he can keep it long as well
12:45 But like you say, he's sometimes falling in and making a few little mistakes there
12:51 I don't like to see him dropping his hands when he's in range either
12:57 But it looks like it's a bit of Josh's style
13:01 Yeah, he looks comfortable with that doesn't he?
13:04 He looks like he's enjoying it
13:06 I think what he's trying to do as well is
13:08 Sometimes he's swaying on the back foot, he's dropping his hands
13:11 I think he's trying to get Clayton to commit to throw first so he can try and counter him
13:15 He's trying to make those openings
13:18 There's one thing in boxing, obviously we talked about there is levels
13:24 We don't want Josh to drop his levels to get in a scrap
13:29 He's a better boxer, he's got better movement, better punch selection
13:33 He doesn't want to get into Clayton's fight
13:37 We've seen what happened in Clayton's last fight
13:41 I don't want to see Josh have to use his heart in this fight
13:44 I want to see him use his skills
13:46 You talk about letting your skills and levels show
13:49 I think that shows when he's boxing behind that jab
13:52 And when he's fighting and he's picking his shots
13:56 [Crowd noise]
13:59 Seconds out, round five
14:23 [Bell rings]
14:25 Round number five from Leeds
14:27 Mark Basin Promotions in Assosciation
14:30 It's easy for me to say, with GSW Boxing
14:33 We're here with Josh Padley, Central Area Lightweight Champion
14:38 Here against Clayton Blacknell
14:40 And he's turning into a tough eight round fight here
14:45 Great little counter left hook there from Josh
14:48 It was a nice shot that
14:50 He's starting to really put his shots together in this round now
14:52 When he puts his shots together you can really see the class
14:55 You really can
14:58 It's just a case of staying composed against an opponent like Clayton
15:05 I think the first round just threw him off his game plan a little bit
15:10 He came out to get behind that guard
15:15 But he knows he can hit him, he looks like he's going for it
15:18 No disrespect to Josh, he's not got the most stoppages
15:22 He's got the one stoppage like I say
15:24 When he put him down he probably fancied stopping him
15:26 And he probably wanted to get his second stoppage
15:29 I think it did throw him off his game plan
15:32 I think he smothered his work
15:34 Whereas what we're seeing in this round, you can see he's a class act
15:37 Landing those lovely body shots
15:40 That's what I want him to see him do
15:42 Pick them shots, use the jab, everything off the jab
15:45 I'm sure that's what his coach here is saying
15:47 He's an old school guy, likes the meat and potatoes of boxing
15:51 Seen it all and done it all
15:54 But he knows he's got a good prospect on his hands here
15:58 He's a man who spends his time and he's put a lot of time into Josh
16:02 And he obviously sees a lot in him and thinks a lot of him
16:05 So he wouldn't train anyone
16:07 Lightweight division, it's a hot division
16:09 But I can see Josh climbing the rankings and challenging for titles
16:13 He's got that quality about him
16:15 When he turns it on air and he's fighting at range
16:18 He's putting his shots together and feinting
16:20 Clayton looks lost at sea
16:22 It's when he chooses to stand in front of Clayton
16:25 Clayton can have a little bit of success himself and land a few shots
16:28 Sort of the fighter as well, Josh
16:31 If he would rise to the occasion
16:33 Like he said at Jimmy First, you know that night
16:35 He was very, very good, he knew he was under it
16:38 Big derby again, a good shot in there, a little sneaky shot
16:41 But Clayton's got a good chin
16:43 He's shown that he got up well in that first round
16:48 Very game, isn't he? Very, very game-fighting
16:51 He's playing a lot on head movement as well, Josh
16:53 You know, he's had to now
16:55 He's happy to be a nice two good shots inside there
16:59 When he turns it on
17:07 Clayton doesn't know where the shots are coming from
17:10 He looks a bit lost
17:13 Work in the corner here
17:21 Just trying to force it a little bit
17:25 Another good round now
17:28 Round 6
17:51 Round number 6
17:56 We're in Leeds
17:58 For this Mark Bateson GSW Boxing Show
18:01 And what a night it's been
18:04 We've had a possible knockout of the year contender on the show up to now
18:09 And here we've got the Central Area Lightweight Champion Josh Padley
18:13 Here against Clayton Bricknell
18:15 What fight to go after this?
18:17 Local lad Jack Bateson, and he's started off here
18:21 Again, Clayton's back to the ropes
18:23 And Josh sinking him, punches in
18:25 And looking for them gaps
18:27 Yeah, Josh is definitely looking for a stoppage here
18:30 Go again! Go again!
18:32 Go again, says Ian Alcock in Josh's corner
18:35 That's what he's got to do
18:40 And he has good work, but then stands off a little bit and waits again
18:43 But like Ian says, go for that second attack
18:46 Yeah, go for the second phase
18:48 Because he's throwing that first phase, Clayton's covering up a little bit
18:51 But yeah, go again
18:53 Fight at probably a higher tempo
18:55 Go there now
18:59 Looking to open him up as well, up top
19:02 Through that body shot
19:04 I think he's seen enough, the ref has, hasn't he?
19:06 Yeah
19:07 He's seen enough
19:08 Yeah, compassion at a stoppage
19:11 Yeah, fair enough
19:13 You know, he was game, wasn't he, Dan?
19:16 Clayton, he was game
19:18 Obviously, he got up in the first round and threw him back all the time
19:21 But it was just sustained shots, sustained punishment
19:24 Clayton was game, but I thought the difference in class was starting to show
19:28 And I think Clayton at times in there looked lost
19:31 He didn't know where the shots were coming from
19:33 He won't like getting stopped
19:34 He's a proud man, and he made a really good account of himself
19:38 And he showed great resilience in there
19:40 But yeah, I think the quality of Josh Padley just shown
19:43 And I think now Josh will, like you say, he's got that good ranking
19:46 He's got the rank number nine
19:48 I think he'll look to start going through the rankings now
19:50 And start looking at the titles
19:52 And I tell you what, it's the first time I've seen him in person tonight
19:55 But very impressed with him
19:57 Ladies and gentlemen, your appreciation please for both boxers
20:01 Thank you
20:02 Fair play to Clayton, tough lad, staying in there that long
20:05 He took some real sustained punishment as well as being on the floor
20:08 But what a good way for Josh Padley, and he moves on
20:11 And that concludes the contest, sorry
20:13 After one minute, eleven seconds of round six
20:17 Your winner, by technical knockout, here in the red corner
20:22 Josh Padley! Padley!
20:26 [Cheering]
20:32 Right, we've got the winner, Josh Padley
