Head coach John Mousinho gives his thoughts on the day and the season
Transcript
00:00Obviously it's been a bit of a whirlwind couple of weeks since Barnsley goals, but how's today?
00:12Is it all sort of sinking in a bit?
00:13Yeah, it definitely has after the last couple of weeks. It took a couple of days after the
00:17Barnsley Tuesday night game. It was a really special occasion at home on the weekend to
00:22lift the trophy. I really enjoyed yesterday as well, winning the game up at Lincoln. It's
00:27a culminating today. I think it's a really fitting ending to the season.
00:29Yeah, you made up to make quite a few changes yesterday. You had a hangover in some terms
00:34and in others as well, literally. Obviously, a brilliant performance yesterday.
00:38Yeah, I thought the lads were exceptional yesterday, considering the circumstances,
00:41the fact we didn't have to win the game. We made six changes and there were a few players
00:44that hadn't played in a long time. I thought it was a really, really good game of football
00:48and we thoroughly deserved to win it, so I was thrilled to come away with three points.
00:51And as the years, well, since you've been here really, the relationship with the fans
00:54has really taken off. It's a culmination today of all those fans out there. How's it
00:58been to be there, standing out there in front of them and lifting the trophy?
01:01It's been amazing. It's been absolutely amazing. The whole season has just been incredible.
01:08From the first moment I mentioned it up on stage where we got the late equaliser at Bristol
01:12Rovers and from then on, you never really look back. We had a tough period around Christmas
01:16where everybody stuck with us. One of the games that really sticks in my mind was losing
01:204-0 at home to Blackpool because the fans just kept going. A really interesting song
01:24about being 4-0 down, which we absolutely loved. And that sort of spirit gets us going
01:28throughout. You can't achieve anything just as a team or just as a set of fans. You've
01:32got to do it together.
01:34Looking back, obviously, Barnsley is a stand-out game. Were there any other matches around
01:38the season where you thought, we've got this, we're going to do it?
01:41I think the Barnsley game away from home, certainly, because we'd had an easy-ish August
01:48on paper, but we hadn't taken a huge amount of points. September looked extremely tough
01:51and we went into it with a draw at Derby and then blew Barnsley away 3-0. The other
01:56game was when we beat Peterborough away. I thought, OK, we really have arrived and this
02:00is our season. This is our chance to actually win the league.
02:03Just lastly, any message for the fans and their support for the season?
02:06Just a huge thank you. A massive thank you. I know what it takes to support a football
02:09club. It's a costly exercise. It's a heart-wrenching exercise. It's not easy being a supporter
02:13of any football club, let alone Portsmouth. So, fair play, well done and I hope you enjoy
02:18yourselves.
