00:00 Earlier this week, we saw a poll that indicated that Americans support legal abortion at a
00:06 level that we haven't seen before.
00:09 It seems as if with each passing month, public support for access to legal abortion just
00:16 keeps increasing.
00:18 What does that tell you about the elections in November and how will this affect former
00:24 President Trump and his showing at the polls?
00:27 Well, I think what it tells us, and again, we've known that there's strong public support,
00:32 but you're right.
00:33 As people are dealing with the devastation of DOBs and the real life implications that
00:38 are all the more stories that are all the more being told every day, we're seeing that
00:43 public support rise.
00:45 And I think it first of all tells us that it's no mistake that the same groups that
00:50 are seeking to restrict abortion, ban abortion, criminalize doctors, criminalize women, are
00:56 also the same groups that are seeking to undermine the ability of people to vote, to intimidate
01:01 people, to try to keep people from participating in the political process by either acting
01:06 like the process is rigged or by acting like there's no hope.
01:11 Because what we know is that this extremist view is not something that the vast majority
01:16 of people support.
01:17 And so I think first of all, what that tells us about what we're going to be dealing with
01:20 over the next 200 days is a movement that does not want people to show up to vote and
01:26 to use their voice.
01:27 And we all are going to need to have a role in encouraging civic participation, I think,
01:32 in light of those deep threats.
01:35 I also think what it tells you, and we saw this right after DOBs, where certain office
01:40 holders started trying to waffle in their positions or to hide their positions.
01:45 I think it also tells you that politicians know that this is important.
01:52 And so it's going to be very, this is popular.
01:54 And so it's going to be very important for your viewers and for all of us as Americans
01:59 to get very specific about what we are demanding of our office holders, of people who want
02:04 to hold the public trust and run for office, to understand their positions and to understand
02:10 who is backing them, and to make sure that if you are someone that supports reproductive
02:16 health care, which is the vast majority of people, that you know what positions folks
02:24 are holding.
02:25 Because I think that you're going to see a lot of attempts at misinformation, at disinformation.
02:30 We even saw it yesterday at the Supreme Court, where in the wake of Justice Sotomayor just
02:35 reading harrowing attempts, accounts of what has happened to women, some of the justices
02:40 looking down at their papers, becoming a bit more silent because this is a reality.
02:46 And so we just need to be very vigilant and understand, you know, and really understand
02:52 what positions people have here.
02:54 And of course, this Supreme Court was created by a far right legal movement that has backed
03:00 a far right political movement.
03:02 And it's important to remember that.
