00:00 "I love you too, Richard. But I love me more."
00:03 Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the Sex and the City episodes
00:08 that should be on your watch list if you're the Samantha Jones of your friendship group.
00:13 While we loved seeing her cameo in And Just Like That,
00:16 we'll only be focusing on the original series today.
00:18 "Miranda and Charlotte told me all about it. I was gonna surprise you."
00:23 If you're not fully caught up, this is your spoiler alert.
00:27 Number 10. Defining Moments
00:29 If there's one thing Samantha loves more than getting busy, it's her friends.
00:34 Indeed, it takes a special kind of pal to help with personal problems,
00:38 especially right after getting their nails done.
00:40 "Go. And I just had my nails done."
00:45 However, on this occasion, she saves Carrie from an arguably deeper pain, heartache.
00:52 When Carrie and Big start hanging out as friends, the others worry he'll break her heart again.
00:57 "Now that the pressure's off, we're finally just enjoying each other. It's good."
01:01 "It's a slippery slope, Carrie. Without boundaries, you never know what's gonna happen."
01:04 "Yeah, we might actually have fun."
01:07 "Have fun? Just don't have amnesia."
01:09 So when Carrie finds herself on an uncomfortable dinner date with her ex and new beau,
01:14 Samantha steps up to the plate.
01:16 If you're willing to stand up for your friends like Samantha does hers,
01:19 we hope they know how lucky they are to have you.
01:21 "Because that girl might come off like she's all strong and over it,
01:25 but she's fragile. And she's my best friend. So I suggest you back off."
01:32 9. Easy come, easy go
01:35 Sam is always about enjoying life's pleasures, both her own and others.
01:40 However, even she has her limits.
01:42 So when she dates a guy with whom intimate evenings end in a funky aftertaste,
01:47 she tries her hardest to make the best of the situation.
01:50 "How long does it take for the wheatgrass to work its way into your system?"
01:53 "Uh, hard to say."
01:56 "Ballpark."
01:57 "Hour and a half?"
01:59 "Oh, we should order."
02:02 However, when nothing helps, she refuses to suffer in silence.
02:06 Unfortunately, her date is not too understanding.
02:09 She chastises him with a speech about how much she values these intimate moments
02:13 between two people, but not at every expense.
02:16 "Honey, they don't call it a job for nothing.
02:18 Now, having said all that, with the right man it can be fabulous."
02:26 We can totally imagine any Samanthas watching cheering her on as she stands her ground,
02:31 making it crystal clear what she will and won't put up with in the bedroom.
02:35 "I'll make a deal with you. You try it. If you're fine with it, I'll be fine with it."
02:44 Number 8. Boy-Girl-Boy-Girl
02:46 In a sea of outdated opinions on sexuality, Samantha is a breath of fresh air.
02:51 When everyone else is stuck in binary thinking during the infamous
02:54 dating the bisexual conversation, she is the only one who gets it.
02:58 "You're not marrying the guy, you're making out with him.
03:01 Enjoy it, don't worry about the labels."
03:03 "You're right, you're right."
03:04 She sees sexuality as a colorful spectrum to explore and enjoy.
03:08 Her famous tri-sexual line also hits back at the entire idea of labels,
03:12 saying "Who cares? Who says we even have to fit into boxes at all?"
03:16 "I'm a trisexual, I'll try anything once."
03:19 Everyone should have the freedom to define their sexuality on their own terms.
03:23 While society may be slowly catching up,
03:26 our Samanthas have always been ahead of the curve in championing sexual liberation.
03:30 "You know, I think it's great. He's open to all sexual experiences, he's evolved."
03:35 "What's up?"
03:36 Number 7. Running With Scissors
03:38 Yes, our Samanthas have been blazing trails for freedom of self-expression.
03:42 However, they've also been leading the charge on reproductive health.
03:46 "Have you all had an AIDS test?
03:48 Good morning. Where did that come from?"
03:51 "I just met this very hot guy and he won't sleep with me unless I have a test."
03:57 Okay, so this time Samantha learns this lesson when her companion
04:00 insists she take an HIV test before things go further.
04:04 She shares her concerns with her friends and is met with almost no judgment,
04:08 just reasonable, practical advice.
04:10 "Just go and get it over with. The test is nothing, the worst part is waiting for the results."
04:13 Eventually, she visits the clinic and even brings a little humor
04:17 to cut through some of that nervous tension.
04:19 "How many sexual partners have you had?
04:20 I'm counting."
04:29 While everything turns out okay in the end,
04:32 it's a poignant reminder to take care of yourself.
04:34 No matter which character you identify with most,
04:37 Sam's experience teaches us all the importance of staying proactive about our health.
04:41 This episode wasted no time introducing us to Samantha,
04:47 the confident, unapologetic, and outspoken powerhouse.
04:51 Right from her first line, we see a glimpse of what makes her so special.
04:55 "Look, if you're a successful saleswoman in this city, you have two choices.
04:59 You can bang your head against the wall and try and find a relationship,
05:01 or you can say screw it and just go out and have sex like a man."
05:04 As she joins her friends for a celebratory dinner,
05:07 the conversation quickly turns to matters of the heart.
05:10 Samantha boldly declares that it's time for women to shift their focus
05:14 from finding Mr. Right to leveling the relationship playing field.
05:18 "Sweetheart, this is the first time in the history of Manhattan
05:21 that women have had as much money and power as men,
05:23 plus the equal luxury of treating men like sex objects."
05:27 In just one scene, Samantha cements her position as a queen
05:30 for anyone who chooses to embrace the hedonistic lifestyle.
05:34 Suddenly, viewers found a new friend on the show,
05:37 someone who stands up for her beliefs and never shames anyone for choosing joy.
05:41 "That right guy is an illusion, you understand that you can start living your life."
05:45 Number 5. The Real Me
05:47 With the media often telling us how we should look,
05:50 it's quite refreshing to see someone like Samantha unapologetically say,
05:54 "This is me, and I love it."
05:56 "What? Oh, come on."
05:58 "I happen to love the way I look."
06:01 "You should, you paid enough for it."
06:02 "Hey, I resent that, I do not believe in plastic surgery."
06:06 "Well, not yet."
06:08 Just imagine what a different world this could be
06:10 with more people like her on our screens.
06:12 When her friends criticize their own appearances,
06:14 she refuses to join in.
06:16 Then, when a man dares to offer grooming advice, she fires back.
06:20 "You had a lot of nerve telling me to get a wax."
06:23 However, is there anything more empowering than when she decides to pose
06:27 for a photo shoot in her birthday suit?
06:29 "I like my body. I'm getting these pictures taken.
06:32 What's the big problem?"
06:33 "No problem. You're my hero.
06:34 I think it's fantastic that you can just put it out there."
06:37 It's not to impress anyone or for attention.
06:40 It's just a celebration of self-love.
06:42 Who couldn't use that kind of body positivity in their lives?
06:45 "Okay, Samantha, Tiger here has a variety of music choices
06:48 to ease you into the shoot and help you feel more comfortable.
06:51 Tiger?"
06:52 "Yeah, I've got some Steely Dan."
06:55 "I'm comfortable."
06:56 Number 4. The Baby Shower
06:58 In a world that still often shames women who don't choose motherhood,
07:01 Samantha has no problem standing up and saying,
07:04 "Hey, I'm child-free and I'm happy."
07:06 "Will you be quiet? People at the next table have a child."
07:09 "Well, that's their choice."
07:12 So one of the last places she'd want to spend an afternoon is at a baby shower.
07:16 Still, she goes because that's what friends do.
07:19 She reaches peak friendship when she defends Charlotte from the mother-to-be,
07:23 no questions asked.
07:25 However, she reaches peak Samantha when she throws an
07:27 "I don't have a baby" shower in celebration of her own life choices.
07:31 "She threw an 'I don't have a baby' shower to let everyone know she was fabulous."
07:35 "Great to see you. Oh, I don't have a baby. Everybody drink!"
07:41 Several years later, despite her less-than-warm inclination to kids,
07:46 she offers to babysit for Miranda so she can enjoy some much-needed me time.
07:50 "You want to babysit? Five? Four? Okay! Okay.
07:54 I don't know what to say. I can't believe it."
07:59 "Well, neither can I, but here I am."
08:01 Number 3. Bells of the Balls
08:03 A PR professional should be assertive, fearless, resourceful, and adaptable,
08:07 if you ask us. That describes Samantha to a T.
08:11 Although apparently it's not enough for hotelier Richard Wright to overlook
08:15 the big red marquees placed against her gender.
08:17 "What are you saying? That business men would be more comfortable dealing with
08:22 a woman if she were working next to a man?"
08:25 "You have a lot to offer. You might want to consider working with a partner who isn't so
08:29 emotional."
08:32 Samantha sums up the double standard over lunch with her friends,
08:35 and makes it clear that she won't go down without a fight.
08:38 "A guy gets angry in a meeting, he's a pistol. A woman? She's emotional."
08:41 It turns out her gender wasn't the problem, but she's totally right.
08:45 Who is he to judge her personal life?
08:47 Standing up for yourself can be intimidating, but we admire anyone who refuses to back down
08:51 from asserting their worth, even if they have to do it time and time again.
08:55 "I am harsh. I'm also demanding, stubborn, self-sufficient, and always right.
09:01 In bed, at the office, and everywhere else."
09:04 Number 2. Luck be an old lady.
09:06 Samantha's not really a fall-in-love kind of gal, so when she accidentally tells Richard
09:11 she loves him, she feels confused and even a little humiliated.
09:15 "What did he say?"
09:16 "Nothing, he just went to sleep."
09:18 "Oof. Well is it possible he didn't hear you?"
09:20 "No, he heard me. Can I get a f***ing nap?"
09:23 Her freakout is highly relatable for anyone who struggles to wear their heart on their sleeves.
09:28 Anyway, she decides to give love a shot,
09:30 only for Richard to break her heart when she catches him cheating.
09:33 Still, she decides to give him a second chance,
09:35 but the constant anxiety of "will he cheat again?" gets to be too much.
09:39 "He had a sudden conference call and he can't go to the fight."
09:41 "Go with the girls!"
09:42 "Right. So he can stay in the room and get service by room service."
09:46 "We'll see about that."
09:47 Sure, being in a relationship is all well and good, but if it comes at such a high cost,
09:52 a Samantha will remind you to put yourself first and walk away.
09:56 "I love you."
09:56 "I love you too, Richard. But I love me more."

10:15 Number 1. Covergirl
10:19 Samantha's are all about living judgment-free lives,
10:22 and they don't care to dish it out either.
10:24 "Don't you want to judge me just a little bit?"
10:26 "Not my style."
10:28 But if you're as fun-loving and free-spirited as she is,
10:31 chances are you've faced your fair share of unwarranted remarks.
10:35 For instance, when Carrie walks in on Sam tending to the delivery guy's package,
10:39 she cannot hide her shock. She even pokes fun at her in front of the others.
10:43 Samantha is not having it, and later during an outfit fitting,
10:47 she gives Carrie a talking to she won't soon forget.
10:50 "And I cannot believe that you would judge me after everything that we've been through."
10:55 Let's hope her words light a fire under others to shrug off the haters and live life in a way
10:59 that brings them true happiness. "I'm gonna splash some water on my face and then I'm going home,
11:04 and I will not be judged by you or society."
11:07 Which Sex and the City moment makes you want to raise your Cosmo to Samantha?
11:10 Let us know in the comments. "My name is goes with the ensemble."
11:13 "Hello, my name is fabulous."
