00:00With the 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards looming on the horizon for June 7th, 2024, everyone
00:05is super excited for it and one familiar face making headlines is none other than Scott
00:10Clifton. Did you know he almost didn't throw his hat into the Emmy ring this year? Let's
00:15jump into it right away!
00:21You see, Scott Clifton, who made history by taking three Emmys in all major categories
00:25for his role as Liam Spencer on Bold and Beautiful, was quite content to take a breather from
00:29the gold rush this time around. Despite the nudges from the show's executive producer,
00:34Bradley Bell, who's always game for his cast members to go for the gold, Clifton was planning
00:38to sit this one out. He'd been down this road before and after his historical 2017 outstanding
00:44lead actor win, he felt like maybe it was time to give others a chance. In an interview
00:48with Soaps.com, he said,
00:50I know the psychology of it, you want to give people space, and just in terms of game theory,
00:54I don't want to be submitting unless there's something that I'm really, really, really
00:58proud of.
00:59But Brad is so sweet, he made me keep submitting and for four or five years in a row, I didn't
01:04get a nomination. I was like, see? So I had kind of thrown my hands up and said, man,
01:10people are sick of me. But here's where things get interesting. Clifton had actually wanted
01:14to step back from the Emmy hoopla for a while. After all, he'd bagged three of those big
01:19trophies and he was okay with that. I have been incredibly fortunate. I got an Emmy in
01:25every category and three is a nice round number, he says.
01:28So I was content with that piece of my career being over. You don't want the Emmys to be
01:33the thing that you're grasping for. Last year, he was thrilled when Bold and Beautiful allowed
01:37him to opt out of the nomination process. He wasn't feeling like he'd knocked it out
01:41of the park, and he was okay with that. But fate, it seems, had other plans. Enter those
01:47intense scenes with Annika Noel where Liam toys with Hope before revealing that he was
01:51just in time to see her kiss her ex, Thomas. Suddenly, Clifton found himself in the spotlight
01:56again, thanks to the relentless encouragement of the show's publicist Eva Basler and associate
02:01producer Rachel Herman. But they were having none of his self-doubt. So they were like,
02:06would you shut up and just submit it and see what happens? So Clifton did just that. And
02:11lo and behold, he snagged his 10th Emmy nomination and a second for the male lead category, and
02:16this time, it hits different. This nomination means more to me than even if I were to be
02:21given the award, he shares. It's been a really hard year on a personal level, that's like
02:25a whole other thing. But I had just come to this belief that people in my life are
02:29sick of me. So today, not to sound like Sally Field, but they're not. It felt like being
02:35told, you are still in our community, and we've still got your back. That really meant
02:40a lot to me. And that's the magic of the daytime Emmys, isn't it? It's not just about the hard
02:45work, it's about feeling seen and appreciated by your fans, especially after a challenging
02:50year. But it's a challenging one this year, as he is up against some other fantastic actors
02:54like Eric Braden from YNR, Torsten K and John McCook, his fellow co-stars of B&B, and
03:00Eric Martzoff from Days. As we count down to the big night, we'll be rooting for Scott
03:04Clifton and all the nominees. And who knows? Maybe this year, Clifton will add another
03:10trophy to his collection. But win or lose, one thing's for certain, the fans will keep
03:14supporting him either way. Who will take it home this year? Let us know your thoughts
