00:00United is the word. The two presidents appeared during this joint conference
00:04very much with the same goal and that is to put an end to the years of violence,
00:10nearly three decades of ongoing violence, targeting very often civilians in the
00:15North Kiva region, the mineral-rich area of the Democratic Republic of Congo. But
00:21for the first time, President Macron actually condemned loud and clear
00:26Rwanda, saying he has been in contact with Paul Kagame, the president of
00:30Rwanda. He expressed the need for Rwanda to withdraw its troops from North Kivu
00:37and this much to the delight of course of the President Tshisekedi
00:42from the Democratic Republic of Congo. And President Macron basically said they
00:48cannot be a double standard in Europe, just like in Africa. In other words, a
00:54territorial integrity must be respected, must be a safeguarded. Rwanda needs to
01:00pull out its troops of North Kivu and also President Macron said that all
01:05militias needed to disarm. This regardless of which side they are
01:10fighting for, which side they are supporting. So very much the same message
01:15from those two presidents with North Kivu, the desperate situation there, of
01:20course, at the heart of discussions today.
