Fussy eater who was hooked on MARMITE cured by hypnosis

A dad who loves Marmite so much he has eaten it every day for 35 years is now enjoying foods he used to hate thanks to hypnosis.

Michael Pryce-Jones, 37, goes through a 500g jar of the black sticky spread every week which he slathers on white toast.

The RAC worker reckons he has eaten more than 12,775 Marmite sandwiches in his lifetime – an average of one a day since he first tasted it as a toddler.

00:00My name's Michael, I'm 37, I'm from the town of Malvern in Worcestershire, and I have ARFID,
00:06which is an eating disorder I've had since I was about two years old.
00:10I wasn't diagnosed until I was about 35.
00:14There wasn't really much help when I was younger, and what happened when I was younger,
00:18one day I just stopped eating food.
00:21My mum would give me everything from bananas cut up, apples, grapes,
00:25any food you could think of for a two year old, one day I just stopped eating it.
00:29And the only things I would eat was a Marmite sandwich and a blended roast dinner,
00:34and that's how it progressed for many, many years from there, from two, all the way up to about 12.
00:40My mum kept trying to get help from NHS and anybody who would help,
00:44but we weren't getting anywhere, there wasn't really a known thing back then.
00:48So, up until the age of 12, I just kept eating blended dinners and Marmite, every single day.
00:55I didn't even eat chips, nothing.
00:58And then as I started to get peer pressure at school, as you go into year 7 transition,
01:03I then started trying chicken nuggets and chips, and that progressed on.
01:08I then started to change how I ate my roast dinners,
01:11I'd be able to eat them a bit more normally, like normal people would on a plate,
01:14instead of having it blended.
01:17But then what happened was I started eating too much chicken and chips,
01:21and life just kind of went on this random cycle where I just kept eating chicken and chips,
01:27fish and chips, every day, and I was just piling on the weight.
01:31And I went all the way up to 18 and a half stone.
01:34Obviously every day was always a daily intake of Marmite, that's every single day.
01:39I knew I had to change, so I started going to the gym, but I wasn't really getting any results.
01:43I was going twice a week, and I needed to go more, but I just couldn't drive myself to go because I was so heavy.
01:49It's hard when you're heavy to motivate, really hard.
01:52So I went online and I found David Kilmurry.
01:55And David, absolute gentleman of a man, you couldn't want to meet a nicer, nicer person in life.
02:03Booked an appointment online, went to see him, explained what was going on from top to tail, just like I've done now,
02:10and he's helped me tremendously.
02:13Marmite's not the problem here, Marmite's great, it's got a source of protein and I love it,
02:17and I'll probably continue to eat it for the next 35 years of my life.
02:20But I needed changes to my other side of my diet, where I was eating too much rubbish stuff from the chip shop and KFC and McDonald's.
02:27But with David I can actually put something in my mouth now, give it a 1, 2, 3, does it work?
02:33Sometimes it doesn't work, but it's about opening your mind to susceptible change.
02:38And I can now eat a fruit smoothie out of the fridge, I can drink it now and it's a good source of fruit for me,
02:45because I can't eat a strawberry or banana or apple and cut it up into tiny segments.
02:49It just doesn't entertain anything for me, so I can't eat it.
02:53And I'm going to keep going, it's not the end of my journey.
02:55I'm still going, I'm still going to go back and see David, I still want more changes.
03:00And the next thing I'm going to be doing is trying something like bran flakes and some spinach,
03:04see if I can get that into me, hopefully.
03:06I'm optimistic, you've got to be optimistic.
03:08If you just say no, you're never going to get anywhere.
03:10So all up for trying new things, but it's got to be the right foods, healthy foods.
03:15I don't want to try other things like pizza, fatty foods, I don't need that.
