00:09The Harry Potter author has made headlines in recent years for her social media campaigning
00:13against the trans rights movement. Rowling recently wrote on social media saying she
00:18would not forgive those who have supported trans health care, including Radcliffe and
00:22his Harry Potter co-stars Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, celebs who cozied up to a movement intent
00:27on eroding women's hard-won rights, and who use their platforms to cheer on the transitioning
00:32of minors, can save their apologies for traumatized detransitioners, and vulnerable
00:36women reliant on single-sex spaces. Radcliffe spoke with The Atlantic of Rowling's comments
00:41this week.
00:42It makes me really sad, ultimately. I do look at the person that I met, the times that we met,
00:47and the books that she wrote, and the world that she created, and all of that is, to me,
00:51so deeply empathic.
00:52Radcliffe previously wrote a statement supporting the trans community for The Trevor Project in
00:562020, saying in part,
00:58To all the people who now feel that their experience of the books has been tarnished
01:02or diminished, I am deeply sorry for the pain these comments have caused you. I really hope
01:06that you don't entirely lose what was valuable in these stories to you.
01:10He gave more insight this week into writing that statement for The Trevor Project,
01:14noting,
01:14I wanted to try and help people that had been negatively affected by the comments,
01:18and to say that if those are Joe's views, then they are not the views of everybody
01:22associated with the Potter franchise.
01:24He added,
01:24Nothing in my life would have probably happened the way it is without that person,
01:28but that doesn't mean that you owe the things you truly believe to someone else
01:31for your entire life.
