Trick Or Treat Studios The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2 Leatherface Sixth Scale Figure
Transcript
00:00 After a decade of silence, the buzz is back. Here's a look at the brand new
00:04 Trick-or-Treat Studios the Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2 Leatherface 1/6
00:08 scale figure.
00:10 Trick-or-Treat Studios is proud to present the officially licensed
00:24 Leatherface 1/6 scale figure from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. The figure
00:28 stands roughly 13 inches tall and includes four hands plus a highly
00:32 detailed chainsaw accessory. No secret, it's the meat. You don't skimp on the
00:37 meat and as we have been seeing from Trick-or-Treat Studios when it comes to
00:40 their six scale releases, they don't skimp at all on the details. I'd like to
00:44 thank the folks over at Trick-or-Treat Studios that did provide this sample of
00:46 the Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2 Leatherface that we could have a look at
00:50 in this review. Good news though is this guy is currently in stock over on their
00:53 site for $199.99 if you'd like to add this one to your Texas Chainsaw Massacre
00:58 collection. If you did also think that this guy was only gonna be 12 inches,
01:01 he's actually clocking a lot higher than that. In fact, this version of Leatherface
01:05 is 12 and a half inches in height, which is about 31 and a half
01:08 centimeters tall. To show you what he also looks like with other Texas
01:11 Chainsaw Massacre figures, I'm bringing in two figures that Sideshow Collectibles
01:15 has released, more so just to show you guys the size differences. On the one
01:18 side we have the Slaughter Mask from the 1974 film. On the other side of course we
01:21 got the Pretty Woman. Both of them are actually a lot shorter than the one we
01:24 get here from Trick-or-Treat Studios. They're also considerably lighter as
01:27 well. Dog will hunt and to help assist Leatherface on his hunt, he needs the
01:32 proper tools of the trade. He trades in his original yellowish-green chainsaw he
01:35 wields in the 1974 film, this time in favor of a red chainsaw with a much
01:39 longer nastier pair of teeth. The teeth, yes, you can see have been quite busy
01:43 recently. Not only quite a helping of blood there on both sides of the
01:46 chainsaw's blades, but also by the fact it looks a little wet. It looks like the
01:49 wounds are still fresh. Now while he's been cutting through something or
01:53 someone, likelihood that the blood is gonna be splattering up, right? I mean
01:57 there's no blood anywhere on the front of his suit, unless he has a really
01:59 expensive dry cleaning bill. But you would think though the blood is gonna
02:02 end up in other places too. Trick-or-Treat also thought of that because
02:05 there's quite a lot of shiny blood all across the front of his motor. There's
02:09 also blood at the back of the handle there as well. And while the functioning
02:12 pull cord doesn't actually get the engines revving, it's a nice recreation
02:16 of the chainsaw he wields in the second film. He's not gonna be wielding much of
02:19 a chainsaw if he doesn't have the proper hands to do it. Luckily though, they did
02:22 include two pairs of interchangeable hands. Ironically though, all the hands
02:26 that he has are all belonging on this side of the figure's body. As he starts out
02:29 the packaging with a closed fist, I've already done away with removing that
02:32 from the forearm, it does also come with a gripping hand. Now he has already one
02:36 thing I've already changed. He does have a trigger hand, suitable for
02:40 holding of course the trigger on the end of the chainsaw. If you don't like that
02:43 and would rather have him just gripping the handle instead, he has then
02:46 this hand. The hands themselves, plastic-wise, are pretty soft, but still I
02:51 had to kind of pry them away from the palm to get them around the handle. If
02:53 you're having a similar sort of situation, obviously you can just heat
02:57 that up in hot water, but the hands do an okay job of fitting around the handle of
03:00 the chainsaw. And of course you can have him wielding it as I did at the
03:03 beginning of this review. I mean with that with the arms designed as they are,
03:06 you may not be able to get them over his head, but of course if you wanted to put
03:10 him in the Leatherface stance, that's probably something you can also pull off
03:13 as well. Now we're gonna come back to this chainsaw near the end of this
03:16 review. We'll just put it off to the side in the meantime. Getting though a closer
03:19 look at Leatherface, one thing I did say though at the beginning when we were
03:22 doing the comparisons, is that this guy is considerably heavy. And I was a lot I
03:26 was expecting this guy to be lighter than what he actually is. And there's a
03:29 reason for that, and a decision that Trick or Treat Studios has done, probably
03:33 not just for part two, but moving forward with the other Leatherfaces as well.
03:36 Before talking more about that, let's look at the head sculpt here. The Savini
03:40 head sculpt mask that we get here is actually one of my favorite things
03:43 about part two's Leatherface. Yes, it doesn't have... I mean obviously if you
03:47 look at the original 74 film, it basically just looks like more paper the
03:51 way they've sewn together the mask. This time around, Savini opted to go with
03:55 more of character, like more personality to the actual mask. So not only obviously
03:59 does he have the sewn together patches of skin, but if you look real closely at
04:03 it, and you don't even have to look that closely at all, if you look to the side
04:05 for example, you can actually see part of a person's face, his eye, his nose, and
04:09 what looks to be the remains of a goatee that ends up being the side of the beard
04:13 for Leatherface. It's such a cool looking touch, and that would have been on
04:17 the original movie mask as well. It's slightly darker color as well to the
04:20 rest of the mask around it, so it really helps to make that stand out. Things that also
04:24 stand out that you can get a chance now to see more on the sixth scale figure is
04:27 there some eyes, there's some noses, a couple of ears there on to the side as
04:31 well. I don't know why he would have chosen those parts of the mask to sew
04:35 together. I'm not just talking about Savini when he designed the mask, but
04:38 thinking like Leatherface, why would Leatherface choose things like ears and
04:41 stuff down below? Unless there's some reasoning why he wanted to choose
04:44 specific facial features as opposed to patches of skin. Either way though, it's a
04:48 really elaborate looking mask, nicely recreated here from Trick-or-Treat
04:51 Studios. Of course you got the slightly recessed sockets of his eyes now
04:54 revealing his eyes underneath, and of course his mangly looking teeth exposed
04:58 there as well. It's a really interesting looking mask. It's a tad on the shinier
05:01 side compared to the way it actually looks in the movie, but I couldn't be any bit
05:04 happier with the way that the mask turned out. The actual hair here, he has a
05:08 lot more hair on the top of his head than perhaps the '74 film. It's a really
05:12 nice looking recreation of the actual mask that he has. And you know
05:14 one thing I was really expecting too is maybe a little more limitations, but when
05:18 we get down to talking more about the articulation on the figure, you'll see
05:21 there's just as much here for some of the other sixth scale figures we've also
05:24 gotten from Trick-or-Treat as well. We'll talk obviously more about that in a
05:27 moment. As for the rest of the figure, now here's where all the weight is actually
05:30 here. Now this section right here for most times that we've gotten sixth scale
05:34 of Leatherface tend to have additional padding. What they basically
05:37 do is they take a sixth scale stock body and then they just add the additional
05:41 padding to make the figure a little more overweight. Why he's already open like
05:44 this is the actual shirt is attached by Velcro. And if I open this up just a
05:48 little bit as I've already done before, you can actually see that Trick-or-Treat
05:51 has actually sculpted a fully sculpted body, like down to the an oversized belly
05:56 that has down below. This is the thing that really adds to the weight of the
05:59 figure because they're not just using padding, they're realizing a fully
06:03 developed body underneath. Likely they're probably gonna be using for future
06:06 figure releases, perhaps even for the part 3 on the remake Leatherface. You'll
06:09 have to stick around to find out. But this is basically just attached by Velcro
06:12 and you just close the Velcro back up. Unfortunately though I will have to the
06:16 times I untucked this, I'm gonna have to tuck it back into his pants. Nice little
06:19 touches that he also has is on the sides he's got the suspenders like he would
06:22 have had in the movie. Nice little silver snaps there on the front of his shirt. And
06:26 of course the busy looking tie that he has in the movie as well. Leatherface is
06:29 always known for having interesting, interesting looking ties. And the one
06:33 from part 2 is one of the more interesting ties that he actually
06:36 has on his shirt. This is nicely done too. It's a wider tie than maybe the
06:39 Slaughter Mask 74 film, but it's a really cool looking tie that he has.
06:43 All of this is really nicely done too. Both the tailoring on the shirt, the
06:47 tailoring on the inside of the jacket. The inside of the jacket looks just
06:50 honestly as good as it does on the outside. He's got a little handkerchief
06:53 there tucked in there as well. The handkerchief does look like it is
06:55 removable, so I want to make sure I don't I don't want to untuck it completely. I
06:59 want to make sure I keep it somewhat in there, somewhat intact. One thing that's
07:03 also notable about the body is that they've gone with a more darker approach.
07:05 Now you could say that this is more so to the fact that you just want to make
07:09 the figure a little bit more dirtier. I'm not sure really why they opted to go
07:12 with a dark coloring like this. I mean from the sense of having the sleeves
07:15 rolling up at any given point, if you roll up the sleeves actually, if I can
07:19 try and try to get the jacket rolled up, it seems to be the case that they
07:22 actually have put in sleeves for the shirt. You can see it right there. It's
07:25 just a little bit harder obviously to take everything off for the jacket, but
07:28 it's really again really nice looking leather face. One of the other problems I
07:32 have with this figure, other than the fact that the shirt is getting a tucked
07:35 here, I think I have to tuck that back in a little bit later, is that he also has the
07:39 cowboy boots like he would have had also in the film. The thing about the cowboy
07:43 boots though is that this is a hard plastic. I mean they have lauded no
07:46 soft tolerances at all for the actual material that they've used. This is a
07:50 hard plastic. So it will mean unfortunately when it comes to the
07:52 articulation of the figure that we'll talk more about in a moment, there really
07:55 isn't much that you can do with his boots in the sense that you can't really
07:58 angle his feet up and down. Now because he also has a slight curve to the front
08:02 of his boot there as well, you really do want to make sure like if unless you
08:05 get this guy with a display stand, now he doesn't actually come included with one,
08:08 but unless you get yourself a six scale stand to stand this guy, I don't know if
08:12 I would just out the gate out of the box really put this guy on display in any
08:16 other pose really than having him standing straight. Simply just
08:19 because again like there's no allowances, there's no tolerances at all for his
08:23 ankle. Really you can't move his ankle at all back and forth. So you know again like
08:27 if you're putting this guy down you really want to make sure his legs are
08:29 kind of straight because he does have a little bit of a balancing issue. More
08:33 just by the way they've sculpted the front of his feet. Now for the figure's
08:36 articulation, starting going back and looking at his head sculpt once again,
08:39 which again like any opportunity to show you guys what this head sculpt looks
08:42 like, the head itself sits to be on a ball joint. So it looks down about that
08:47 far, it looks up and you can also move it back and forth as well. Technically too
08:51 the head would be able to rotate all the way around although you're obviously
08:53 gonna be hitting collar by that point. As for the arms themselves, the arms easily
08:57 come out 90 degrees. You can bring the arms forward and bring the arms back. By
09:00 the way also there seems to be some additional padding that they put to the
09:03 top of the vest or top of the suit jacket but there seems to be like just a
09:07 larger mass on this guy's body. I would love to see what they're gonna do with
09:11 this body moving forward because you can't imagine that they're doing this
09:13 only solely for part two. I already suspect that they're probably gonna be
09:16 doing this as well for Leatherface, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3 and also as
09:20 well the remake that we'll be looking at. But this guy was notably heavy. I mean
09:23 right away getting this guy out of the box I could believe that they decided to
09:26 actually sculpt the body. Really impressive because I would have just
09:28 suspected, I mean not that trick-or-treat studios would have done
09:31 that, but that they would have just used the six scale body that they've already
09:34 done already with Michael Myers and then probably just added the padding. Didn't
09:37 do that at all. Now for the articulation though that's the only thing that's
09:41 gonna be a little bit more limited here. Yeah sure his arms come out forward and
09:44 back. He does have the again the swivel a little bit of a swivel there in his
09:47 bicep. Single hinge only in his elbow and hands do rotate all the way around. Where
09:52 the limitation comes is because now they've retooled a brand new body here.
09:55 He doesn't have as much articulation here for the torso. There's nothing here
09:59 cut for the top underneath his pecs. There's nothing here that you can really
10:02 rotate. I mean yes there is a bit of a ball joint here. I'm guessing really more
10:06 where it's attached to the waist but there's not as much that you can really
10:09 do with the top of his torso as he's opening up his shirt like this. Now the
10:13 legs do split. I couldn't help but notice that they are squeaky
10:16 though. They seem to be also using ratcheted joints and I'm wondering if
10:20 they also incorporate ratcheted joints now because again there's so much
10:23 additional weight and volume with his torso that wasn't going to be the case
10:26 before. But there's definitely notable ratchet joints here on his legs. Again
10:31 they split out. There's a little bit of a swivel there at the top of the thigh.
10:34 Once again it seems to be only a single hinge on the knee but the actual joints
10:37 themselves they're kind of hard to really describe. They're cut right here
10:42 and they feel as if they're almost like action figure legs in the sense that
10:46 there's not a notable hinge where like you can see like if you if you ever
10:50 hinge a figure's leg for example you can actually feel oh there's a double hinge
10:54 right there there's a hinge right there and a hinge right there was just really
10:57 tight before so he's got a double hinge on the on the knee that's a nice thing
11:00 to see but again like when you get into the ankle like that's as far back and
11:04 forth that you really can get with his boots sometimes though when you do try
11:07 to move his feet back and forth ends up ultimately just popping off the cowboy
11:11 boot so you just have to pop it back in place you know again he's a little bit
11:14 limited there I kind of wish in a way that they could have used a slightly
11:16 softer plastic for his boots just so that there's good there could be a
11:20 little bit more mileage but I mean when you actually look at the boot itself you
11:24 know what let's just take the cowboy boot off here I want to show you the
11:26 inside of it so essentially what it is you got the ball joint here the ball
11:29 joint is only really gonna be working at the top of the ankle but again because
11:33 they're also using the harder plastic for the boot it just means that the
11:36 ankle isn't gonna be having as much much tolerance as much tolerance as say
11:40 perhaps the sixth scale Michael Myers figures that we've looked at from them
11:43 as well all in all though it's a nice-looking figure really happy also as
11:47 well because if you've already been collecting from other companies of
11:49 course the other six scale figures for Texas Chainsaw Massacre I mean in a way
11:52 trick-or-treat studios has now carried on the torch for all the other Texas
11:56 Chainsaw Massacre movies they were nice enough to provide not only the
11:59 Leatherface from part 3 also as well the remake but backing up a bit obviously I
12:03 wanted to look at more part 2 first as obviously it's the first figure of the
12:07 series of three three movies essentially that they're gonna be doing figures for
12:11 I hope though that's not the end I'm still rallying and I might be very well
12:16 the only person even has any remote interest in this but I do hope at one
12:19 point they do tackle the next generation for at least a basic version of
12:24 Leatherface but dare I hope that we might also get ourselves a drag
12:27 Leatherface as well I mean again I might the only person that might be actually
12:31 interested in a drag version of Leatherface but I hope that's something
12:34 they eventually approach when they get to that in line moving now over to the
12:38 rotisserie Leatherface wheeling his chainsaw high in the sky it's not
12:41 something so successfully pulled off mind you especially if you got the
12:44 figure rotating on a turntable like this the problem isn't so much the ankle
12:47 pivots because the ball joints are there the problem more is the fact that they
12:50 accomplished the cowboy boots by using a harder plastic I think one of the
12:54 reasons probably why they did decide to use a harder plastic as opposed to
12:57 something softer keep it came in mind to like he's got a lot of weight in his
13:00 upper body you want to make sure that you give him a nice stable footing and
13:04 maybe the harder plastic was the better route to go if they had used softer
13:07 plastic or even vinyl or faux leather I mean those last two things would be
13:11 problems anyways because they would eventually start to split and crack over
13:13 time harder plastic yes can give a better stable footing for the figure but
13:17 it means though that if you're looking at him especially with the way he's
13:20 angled his feet the feet are kind of more sitting on the side than they are
13:23 completely flat what I might try to do though is not maybe submerge in hot
13:27 water because I don't want to damage the boots at all but maybe even just taking
13:30 a hairdryer and softening up the sections where his ankles would normally
13:33 have been and see if I can bend the boots inward just enough so that if he's
13:37 standing like he is standing right now his feet will appear more flat than
13:41 sitting more bow-legged what do you think of the figure though let me know
13:44 down below in the comment section I mean first of all obviously I did want to
13:47 start things off with a part to leather face before we jump over to the
13:50 leather face part 3 and then of course the remake I mean it was a good place to
13:53 start and obviously if you are already collecting other sixth scale companies
13:57 leather faces the fact that trick-or-treat studios jumped on board
14:00 with part 2 was I think a really smart place to start things off whether they
14:04 may go back though and do anything from the 74 film I hope because I would love
14:08 to see I mean based on what how much detail and how much work they put into
14:11 this piece I would love to really see what they'd be able to do with a 74
14:15 film if it is though just a case that they're gonna be taking from like part
14:18 2 and moving it forward we already know again we're getting leather face from
14:20 part 3 we're also getting as well though the remake all of those figures we will
14:24 be looking at upcoming reviews but I hope also as well that we might get also
14:27 future leather faces I jokingly said of course next generation as anybody have
14:32 any interest at all in I made this joke that trick-or-treat studios as well I
14:35 might very well be the only person on this planet that actually wants a drag
14:39 leather face six scale figure they definitely need to make that happen but
14:43 I would definitely certainly be open to the idea of the new beginning I mean a
14:46 new beginning for of course the leather face also as well I mean we could get
14:50 Texas chainsaw master 3d do your thing cuz there's lots of definitely
14:54 opportunities and again basing it from what we have so far with leather face
14:58 from part 2 I definitely think though that leather face and the chainsaw are
15:02 in proper hands again if you guys are interested get this one for yourself
15:06 leather face from part 2 Texas chainsaw master her - it's available right now
15:09 over on their site for $199.99 bare bones yes but you never know we might see
15:14 ourselves an appearance of nubbins hey there's always an opportunity as well
15:17 for them to release some accessory packs similar to what they've done with
15:20 Michael Myers but yes this guy is available over on their site for $199.99
15:23 thanks to the folks over at Texas Texas thanks to the folks over at trick-or-treat
15:28 studios they did provide of course the sample of Texas chainsaw master part 2
15:31 they did also provide samples of both the part 3 and the remake we will be
15:35 looking at upcoming reviews and of course if you guys did enjoy this video
15:38 I want to throw it a like if you guys are loving the content you guys are
15:40 seeing want to see the remaining reviews for those other two leather faces yes
