00:00I'm aiming for a victory in 2024. As we went into 1997 we had four by-elections
00:08where we had over 20% swing. With Blackpool South going into the 2024
00:14election we've just had our fifth by-election win with over a 20% swing so
00:18I think that that is vindication that people can see we're a changed party.
00:22People want to turn their backs now on 14 years of decline under the Tories and
00:28there's this sense that we need to turn the page now, have a fresh start for our
00:33country and go forward with a positive plan and the sooner that can happen I
00:37think the better.
00:38The low turnout doesn't bother you?
00:40Well by-elections traditionally have lower turnouts than general elections
00:44but this is a very very significant swing 26% swing and not just Labour
00:50getting that swing but of course the Tories only just clinging on to second
00:55place by a few hundred votes ahead of reform so there's a very very strong
01:00message I think the Prime Minister here and I think anybody trying to suggest
01:04that this is some kind of midterm problem this is consistently been
01:08happening in by-elections for a long time now and I think that's because the
01:13country wants change they're fed up with the situation under this government and
01:18they want to go forward with Labour and we want to make that positive case to

01:26We're fighting hard in all areas of the country in Tees Valley it's obviously a
01:33huge majority that the Conservatives got last time that would take a mammoth swing
01:40to Labour so we're very very feet on the ground in relation to that but look we've
01:45shown here in Blackpool South exactly what we can do without change Labour
