Oliver Coppard discusses hopes for South Yorkshire Mayoral Election at Barnsley's local election count (May 2)
Transcript
00:00Most of all, these things obviously were up until late last night,
00:04kind of been working really hard over the last six weeks to try and talk to as many people as
00:07possible. So the overriding feeling is usually exhaustion at this point. But look, a long way
00:13to go. So I'm hopeful, certainly optimistic about the results that we're seeing, the ballots that
00:18we're seeing here. But still a long way to go. So we'll see what happens tomorrow at about 12.31
00:23o'clock. Look, we want to carry on the progress that we've made. So over the last two years,
00:26we've done a huge amount to bring in more private investment, create jobs,
00:29fix the public transport network in South Yorkshire. So the work on bringing the buses
00:33back under public control where they belong, the building on the work we've already done to bring
00:37SuperTram back under public control, guaranteeing a bed for every single child under five across the
00:42whole of South Yorkshire. Those are the sorts of things that we need to see accelerated progress.
00:48We need to make more change happen. We want a safer, healthier, wealthier and happier South
00:52Yorkshire. That's what we're promising over the next four years. And I'll do everything I can
00:55to make that a reality if I'm lucky enough to be re-elected.
