Prince William Gives Update On Kate Middleton Amid Cancer Diagnosis

00:04 The 41-year-old received flowers from and chatted with fans in Newcastle, England on April 30th,

00:09 who asked the prince how his family was doing amid his wife Kate Middleton's cancer diagnosis.

00:13 The Princess of Wales had announced her diagnosis in a moving video in March

00:21 and revealed she was undergoing preventative chemotherapy treatment.

00:25 She explained that following her successful abdominal surgery in January,

00:28 tests after the operation discovered that cancer had been present.

00:32 This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can

00:37 to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.

00:41 As you can imagine, this has taken time.

00:45 It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment,

00:50 but most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis

00:56 in a way that's appropriate for them and to reassure them that I'm going to be okay.

01:01 Kate received an outpouring of love and support from the world after revealing her diagnosis,

01:05 including from her father-in-law King Charles, who is also battling cancer himself.

01:09 After taking some time to undergo treatment, the king returned to public-facing duties on April 30th,

01:14 visiting a cancer treatment center alongside his wife Queen Camilla.

01:17 Before his visit, Buckingham Palace had announced that King Charles

01:21 will have a number of external engagements in the weeks ahead,

01:23 including hosting a state visit in June with the Emperor and Empress of Japan.

01:27 The palace also recognized the first anniversary of the coronation is quickly approaching, saying in part,

01:32 "Their Majesties remain deeply grateful for the many kindnesses and good wishes

01:36 they have received from around the world throughout the joys and challenges of the past year."
