00:00So for a golfer it can be really satisfying to be able to shape the ball to the right
00:04and to the left as well.
00:06We're on the 18th at the Asprey today, we've got 200 yards and we've got a big strong breeze
00:11off the right today so here I could play either shot, I could ride the wind off the right
00:16or I could play a little fade and hold the ball a little bit up into the wind.
00:21We're going to look at some simple points at set up that's going to really help you
00:24influence hitting both shot shapes and also talk a little bit about the theory, what's
00:29happening at impact to produce those golf shots.
00:32So firstly how do we actually hit a right to left golf shot, so a draw for a right handed
00:37golfer.
00:38Well firstly what we need to talk about is the club path and the club face angle.
00:43So what happens if we're trying to hit a draw, we need to separate the path from the club
00:47face.
00:48Now the face is going to start the golf ball wherever it goes and the path in relation
00:53to it is going to make the ball or give the ball some curvature.
00:57So if I'm hitting a draw shot now I need to start to get my swing direction or my club
01:01path a little bit more right of target.
01:04So firstly if I aim a little bit more right and that's with the feet, the knees, the hips
01:10and the shoulders, this is really going to encourage the club path now to go a little
01:15more to the right of the target.
01:17Now what happens from a set up point of view, if I can put the ball a little bit further
01:22towards the centre of the stance, this is really going to encourage my golf club as
01:27it comes down in the arc, it's going to really encourage a little bit of an earlier hit in
01:32this arc.
01:33If I have the ball too far forwards now this arc is going to start coming in a little bit
01:36more round to the left encouraging that little bit more of a neutral path.
01:41So we're going to put the ball more in the centre, now my knees, hips and shoulders are
01:46aiming to the right.
01:47There's a key part that we need to do now and that's where the club face is aiming so
01:51I'm going to just turn the club face a little bit more left so perhaps it's pointing more
01:56at the pin and you can see in this set up now that I've got my feet and everything aiming
02:03to the right, this is going to really encourage that rightward path and you can see the club
02:06face now is separated from that.
02:09So I'm just going to put a regular swing on it from here, so the ball's back, everything's
02:13aiming right, got the club face left, regular swing, let's see how we do.
02:22So we can see that ball there just starting right of the green, just drawing round to
02:27the middle there and that's all come very simply from how I've set up, I haven't changed
02:32my swing in any way, I've just changed the set up.
02:34Vice versa now, if we pull another golf ball in here, I'm going to flip this round now
02:39so I'm going to get my feet, body, knees and everything aiming a little bit more left of
02:45the green.
02:46So I'm going to move the ball a little bit more forwards in the stance now, what this
02:49is really going to encourage again, like we spoke about, is that bit of a later hit
02:53in the arc, bit more swing direction to the left but then I'm going to just make that
02:58slight change to the club face and get that point in a little bit more where I want the
03:03ball to finish.
03:04So everything's aiming left, feet, hips, shoulders, club face aiming at the flag and I'm going
03:09to try and swing along the feet line.
03:18We can see that one takes off just left of that pin, fading onto the middle of the green
03:24there.
03:25So really, really simple things that you can do, low hanging fruit stuff at the set up
03:29to influence different shot shapes.
