00:00 Hello there, welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office. As we go through
00:05 this new week, the weather is set to change for the better if you're looking for some
00:09 drier weather. That is, we start to say goodbye to areas of low pressure as this area of high
00:14 pressure begins to move in and really dominate proceedings as we head towards the middle
00:18 of the week. Exceptions, the very far north west of the country, weather fronts here just
00:24 try to move in from time to time, just giving some cloudier and some wetter weather here.
00:28 But for most of us, middle of the week onward looks fairly dry indeed. Back to the here
00:34 and now, that's not quite there just yet. We've still got some heavy rain to contend
00:38 with down towards the south eastern corner, especially for parts of Kent and Sussex, and
00:43 it's really going to linger here for much of the day. Also quite a cloudy picture for
00:47 parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland with some outbreaks of rain, especially across
00:52 eastern and central Scotland. Elsewhere, there will be some bright spells but that in turn
00:56 will trigger some fairly heavy showers in places. So if you do have travel plans throughout
01:01 the day today, just do take a little bit of extra time for your journeys because there
01:04 could just be some heavy rain almost anywhere really across the country. But where we do
01:09 see the sunshine, it will feel fairly warm, highs reaching around 18 or 19 degrees. But
01:14 if you're stuck under the cloud, especially across eastern parts of Scotland, north eastern
01:18 England, feeling fairly cool here, highs only really struggling to reach around 11 to 13
01:23 degrees. So certainly a little bit below par for where we should expect this time in May.
01:29 So into this evening, a lot of the showers gradually beginning to fade away and also
01:33 the area of rain across south east England just gradually moving towards the continent.
01:38 So by the end of the night, much of the UK turning dry with some clearer skies, especially
01:43 across parts of Northern Ireland and eastern England. The central slice probably remaining
01:47 fairly cloudy with some outbreaks of rain just continuing for Scotland and northern
01:52 England. But where we do see the clearest skies, we'll see a little bit of mist and
01:56 fog form and also turning quite chilly compared to recent nights. Could see lows falling down
02:01 to about two to three degrees in the countryside. But for Northern Ireland and eastern England,
02:06 once any early mist and fog clears, a lovely start to Tuesday morning. Elsewhere, a lot
02:11 of cloud around, but I'm optimistic, especially across most southern parts of the UK, we will
02:16 see some brightness breakthrough. But that may in turn trigger a few showers. They won't
02:20 be anywhere near as heavy or as frequent as Monday, but nonetheless, there will still
02:25 be a few around Scotland, unfortunately, really remaining fairly grey here. Apart from the
02:30 far north of Scotland here, actually, we will see some sunshine as the afternoon goes on.
02:36 Temperature wise, really dictated once again, whether or not you have cloud or sunshine.
02:40 Where you do see the sunshine highs reaching 20, possibly maybe even 21 degrees in the
02:45 odd spot, but stuck under the cloud, especially again across parts of eastern Scotland, temperatures
02:50 really struggling. Only highs of 12 to possibly 13 degrees. Then having a look at Wednesday,
02:57 Wednesday starts to see the high pressure really dominate across the UK. So as you can
03:01 see, not a raindrop on the screen, so a largely dried day on Wednesday. Not water or sunshine
03:08 by any means. There will be a fair bit of cloud around, but there will also be some
03:12 sunshine in places and highs ranging between the mid-teens, possibly the low 20s across
03:17 the more southern parts of the country. But do watch out for higher pollen levels as we
03:22 go through the week ahead as the settled weather begins to build across the UK. But you can
03:27 find out more about that on our social media channels. And if you want a local forecast,
03:31 check out our app or our website. But for me, take care and I'll see you again soon.
