00:00Belgian and German police have searched the European Parliament offices of the Alternative
00:06for Germany party's Maximilian Krah.
00:10The raid is part of an investigation into Krah's aide Jianguo, who was arrested last
00:15month on suspicion of spying for China.
00:19Euronews correspondent Ada Sanchez-Alonso has more.
00:23At the end of this corridor, behind the journalists, we can see a bit of the register of the offices
00:28of the German MP Maximilian Krah.
00:30We have spoken with sources of the European Parliament and we have been told that they
00:33cannot comment on this investigation that is underway, but that they are fully cooperating
00:37with the justice and that is why they have allowed the police to access these offices.
00:42Krah is the AFD's top candidate for next month's EU elections.
00:47He denies any wrongdoing and hasn't been charged with any offences.
00:52He also said he would dismiss his assistant, who remains in custody, pending a possible
00:57indictment.
00:58The case has cast an unflattering light on the far-right German party, which was already
01:03facing criticism for its so-called Russia-friendly positions.
01:08It's not clear yet how much of an impact the Chinagate probe will have on the party in
01:12the June elections.
01:14A recent Euronews poll showed the AFD's predicted vote share has been growing.
01:20Krah has pulled past the Social Democratic Party to take second place behind the Christian
01:24Democrats.
