00:00Well, I'll always remember this as my first one.
00:01Yeah.
00:02Yeah.
00:02Well, because it is your first one.
00:03Can I come next year?
00:04Yes.
00:04Can I just come every year?
00:05You're only allowed to come with me.
00:11I've known Stella, god, I don't know, maybe eight, nine years.
00:15Every now and then she'll like send a jacket or whatever
00:19and then for this next album campaign I'm going into,
00:22we're sort of doing some clothes for videos
00:25and that's where the conversation came up.
00:26I went in for a fitting and she was just like, come to the Met.
00:29Because I used to just wear hoodies and just wear jeans and just wear Jordans
00:32and then I sort of came out with a new album in 2021
00:36and I just kind of enjoyed coming out of my shell for one night only
00:40and wearing something that I would never usually wear
00:42and that's sort of what today is.
00:44You'll see the suit and it is definitely not something
00:46that I would have in my wardrobe regularly
00:49but it's quite fun to do for one night.
00:54How do I do my hair?
00:55I usually, whatever hotel I'm in,
00:57I use the shampoo and the conditioner.
00:59And that's it?
01:00Yep.
01:02You get fitted for these things like a month out
01:04and then you're like, you go to New York for a week and eat loads of pasta
01:08and you're like, is it going to fit?
01:10It's more the shoes I'm worried about.
01:11They're not like obviously as comfortable as wearing Jordans.
01:14I actually, Jordans are usually what I would wear with a suit.
01:17If you're going to spend an entire evening in something,
01:18you want to be like comfortable.
01:20So I name dropped it in a song and yeah, they sent me like a lifetime supply
01:24and that was 14 years ago.
01:28Shhh.
01:36Bling.
01:38These are diamond cufflinks yeah.
01:40Borrowed though.
01:42These aren't just sitting in my drawer at home.
01:45I feel like I'm about to go to my first Met and have a memorable evening.
01:50it. The city, it kind of feels like a Monday. So this is Stella McCartney for Vogue. I'm
02:03Ed Sheeran and we're doing our first Met together. I'm Stella's date for the evening.
02:06He's a Met virgin.
02:07Met virgin, popping the cherries at night. When was your first Met?
02:11Oh, my first Met was in 1920 with Liv Tyler and I went down to the East Village in New
02:20York about four hours before the Met. And I took some wife beaters and I got this guy
02:24to custom make them and put rock royalty on them. And it's history. The rest is history,
02:29right Vogue?
02:30Was that the first Met?
02:31That was my first Met. I don't think it was the first Met. I'm not that old.
02:34What was the first Met? Was it the same vibe though? Or has it obviously got more like
02:38crazy?
02:39Oh yeah, it was really lo-fi. I went to pick up my friend Liv Tyler. And well, I mean,
02:43I got my outfit made downtown four hours before the Met. So that's kind of your answer.
02:49Me too, actually.
02:50Yeah, exactly. In the garment district. And I went and picked her up. And we both didn't
02:56know what we were going to. I was like, oh, Anna's invited me to this thing. And she was
02:59like, oh, what is it? I was like, let's just go have fun. And I went to pick her up. And
03:02I remember going into her room. And I was like, what is happening? And she had hair
03:07and makeup. And I was like, what are you doing?
03:09Oh, you thought it was just like, you were going for dinner or something?
03:12I literally just went, wah, wah, wah. Like, I mean, you can see the pictures. You can
03:15see it's horrible. Like, I've cut my own hair. Like, I am like, self done.
03:18They're going to cut them in right now.
03:19I'm self done and Liv's like, got hair and makeup.
03:22Well, Ed inspired the fit. Everything about this was inspired by Ed. Matching the eyes,
03:26obviously. Redhead to redhead. What can I say?
03:29Honky, homing away.
03:31And he's wearing, the coolest thing, I'll tell you what, Ed has got on lab-grown diamonds.
03:36So, and I'm wearing a lab-grown diamond. So basically, all of my gang are wearing lab-grown
03:42diamonds, which is like really cool and sustainable and innovative.
03:47Thanks for having us.
03:53But Vogue, thank you for getting ready with me for my first ever Met Gala. And I am going
03:57to go now. And you are not. See you in a bit.
04:01I think you will go though, because it is technically your company who's doing it.
04:05So, see you there.
04:17Bye.
