Passengers were left frustrated as long queues built at British airports on Tuesday (May 7) evening after the country's Border Force suffered a nationwide technical issue that affected passport control. - REUTERS

00:00 We got to passport control and then all of a sudden the queue just stopped moving.
00:08 I looked over at the electronic gates, the e-gates, and all of the screens were blank,
00:14 they were all off. They eventually got some border force officers to start manually processing all
00:21 the passports, which takes a lot longer than the e-gates. At the same time there's hundreds of
00:27 people joining the passport control area from other flights that were coming in, so very quickly it
00:35 turned very chaotic. There were a lot of angry, disgruntled, tired passengers, a lot of people
00:41 coming in from long flights who just wanted to get home, so there were a lot of frustrated people
00:48 understandably and no one was being given any information. You could hear people saying this
00:54 is typical of the UK, that nothing ever works, people saying this is the last thing that they
01:01 wanted after a long day traveling.
