00:00Wizard with a Gun was always meant to be a four-player game, but Wizard with a Gun is
00:08complex, really complex, and with all the moving parts in early development, releasing
00:14with four-player just wouldn't have been putting our best foot forward.
00:18Honestly, the players deserve our best, so as many of you know, during production, we
00:23made the hard decision to reduce the game to two-player for release, and then we continued
00:28working on getting four-player into the best possible state for our community.
00:33We wanted to share a little bit of insight on how this came about, and also give you
00:36a taste of what's to come in our next update.
00:41Development went through a mountain of technical challenges to make four-player gameplay work.
00:45We actively simulate more parts of the world at once when multiple players are in different
00:49areas.
00:50More wizards also means more cool particle effects on screen, and enemies on screen,
00:53and more places for our networking code to fail and uncheck some mismatch, which can
00:57crash the game entirely.
00:59Early on, we had four-player playtests where we couldn't even re-roll the world without
01:02the game crashing.
01:03Even games with three-player were stuttering because of network issues.
01:07We definitely had our work cut out for us to get the performance and stability for broader
01:11multiplayer to where we wanted.
01:13Even as we were approaching the initial launch with the two-player limit, we continued working
01:17to support four players.
01:18It took a lot of effort, but we finally got here, and we're really proud of what we've
01:22accomplished.
01:23Beyond the technical concerns, we knew balancing the game for four players was also going to
01:28be a challenge.
01:29Through our regular playtests, we identified a number of changes to bring the four-player
01:33experience up to our standards.
01:36We wanted to ensure that folks would find an appropriate amount of challenge with up
01:40to four players, and also encourage them to stick together as they roam the shadow.
01:44And of course, everyone's preferred experience differs, so with this new update, we're providing
01:49four preset difficulty modes, as well as a custom mode with a handful of settings so
01:54you can tune the game however you like.
01:58If you thought that four-player was the only thing we were including in this update, think
02:01again.
02:02Because you were wrong.
02:03You were wrong about that.
02:04We've also got a new library that allows you to re-read all the tasty lore you found in
02:08the Shatter, and some big chunks of content in the endgame.
02:12I don't know how much we're allowed to tease that, but all I can say is that it will be
02:15chaotic.
02:17So, that's a lot to cover, but we're really excited to share this update with you.
02:23By the way, we're calling it the Better Together Update, because Wizard with a Gun is better
02:28together.
02:29Get it?
02:30You'll be able to Wizard with a Gun in four-player squads on May 13th.
02:34And we can't wait to get it into your hands.
02:36As always, we love to hear what you think.
02:38Thanks for watching, y'all, and we hope you enjoyed this little peek behind the scenes.
