00:00The Blue Angels represent the best of the best of the Navy.
00:11I'm used to doing films that have special effects and you plan these moves and it's
00:15cool but it's not real.
00:16What these pilots do, it's real, there are no second chances.
00:21It is truly a life and death demonstration.
00:24What makes this documentary different than seeing it from the ground is you're not here,
00:29you're in it.
00:30You'll get to be in the cockpit watching them from behind, chasing them underneath the planes,
00:34being upside down, we're right there with them.
00:37Stay focused, it's game on time.
00:41There's a lot of consideration that went into how to shoot the Blue Angels in ways you've
00:44never seen them before.
00:46On a project like this you just don't get a take two.
00:49We could never ask them to do a flight demonstration without that being part of their regular practice
00:54schedule or demo.
00:55They fly when they fly and we had to figure out how to capture it.
01:00Everybody's lives are in each other's hands.
01:02The maneuver where these F-18 are 12 inches apart, it's called the Yankee set.
01:05You can't even believe how close they are coming together.
01:08It's an incredible thing to see and especially in this MX format.
01:12There are moments the world will slow down for just a couple seconds.
01:18We just come off of Top Gun Maverick and became known for dynamic, high action, jet aerial
01:23work.
01:25Never in the history of motion picture aviation has a civilian camera helicopter been approved
01:30to be inside the Blue Angel demonstration.
01:33We were shooting for IMAX and so the special rig needed to be used to mount the cameras.
01:37We used the Sony Venice 2 cameras and high speed Phantom cameras.
01:40We came up with this idea, wouldn't it be really cool to see these jets at a thousand
01:46frames a second?
01:47To let people live in that little moment that usually is a flash and let them just experience
01:51the awe and power of these machines.
01:57I really feel so proud of this documentary because I get to put the real heroes on screen.
02:03It's the closest I think any of us will come to being in a cockpit with these pilots.
02:08It's a remarkable thing to see.
02:10If we can make audiences feel what it's like to be a Blue Angel, it's going to be a hell
02:15of a ride.
