Collin Morikawa talks through the clubs and other gear in his golf bag for the 2024 season
Transcript
00:00 Yeah, so I've got the new TaylorMade QI10 Max.
00:03 There's three different models.
00:04 This is actually the bigger head.
00:06 Let's call it the more amateur version that a lot of people use.
00:09 I've got a Diamanta shaft.
00:10 I've used a Diamanta pretty much my entire life, but this is actually a newer model that
00:14 I haven't used in the past.
00:16 And then I've got these Z-Cord Golf Pride grips throughout the entire bag, all the way
00:20 throughout my wedges.
00:21 It's actually a 50 gram shaft.
00:23 It actually weighs out to 63 grams.
00:25 So I'm going to pad myself and not make it sound like I can't swing a heavier golf shaft.
00:31 It's a TX flex, Tour flex, Tour stiff, Tour extra stiff.
00:36 Nine degree head, but what's actually unique, I have it all the way on the lower setting.
00:40 So it's almost at about seven and a half degrees.
00:42 So pretty low loft for what I've used in the past.
00:47 This head launches a little higher with a lot more spin.
00:49 So I've had to take that down just by putting it on a lower setting.
00:54 Yeah, so I've got a three wood and a five wood.
00:56 I'm still using the Sim three wood.
01:01 It's actually a really low loft as well.
01:03 It's at about a 13 and a half, 14 degree three wood.
01:07 I've got another Diamanta shaft in it.
01:09 It's been my go-to trusty club.
01:11 It sets up great.
01:12 I can hit every shot.
01:13 I can hit a 300 yard flat three wood off the tee and hit a 240 yard cut three wood if I
01:20 have to.
01:21 Yeah, I'm put that away and I've got my five wood.
01:23 I've got the new QI 10 five wood.
01:26 One of the easiest clubs for me to actually put in woods wise.
01:30 Five woods have always been really easy to hit.
01:32 It's actually has the same exact shaft and weight as my three wood, just a little bit
01:36 shorter.
01:37 Spin is so important.
01:38 So I talk about hitting a very flat three wood and a very spinny three wood.
01:42 I just haven't been able to find that exactly how I want.
01:45 I know what this one does.
01:47 So we're in the works right now to hopefully create a head that gets me to where I want.
01:51 Yeah, so I've got three different types of irons in my bag.
01:54 I've got the tailor made P770 and the four iron, a little more forgiveness, a little
01:58 thicker head launches it a lot faster, a lot hotter, takes a spin off, but also launches
02:03 it high.
02:04 So going into a par five green or a long par four, I'm able to hit that type of shot with
02:10 this four iron.
02:11 So the reason why I don't have that in the five and six is because I feel like I can't
02:15 shape the ball as much.
02:17 So with this four iron, I like to hit a lot straighter of a shot.
02:20 Five and six irons, I've got P7 MCs with a dynamic gold shafts, X100s, a little mid flight.
02:27 So a little different shaft to get the ball launching a little bit higher.
02:30 I'm kind of a mid range player.
02:31 I don't really hit it too high.
02:32 I don't hit it too low.
02:33 It's nice to hit your long irons high.
02:36 What's unique about my iron setup is that my grips are really unique in how many masking
02:43 tapes and double sided tapes I put on my right hand.
02:45 I like to make it a certain way to kind of build up my right hand, not make it as tapered
02:50 down the right side.
02:51 So the irons, pitching wedge through seven iron, I've got the P7 30s.
02:56 These I've used for quite some time.
02:57 I've gone between these and they actually made me a P7 MBs.
03:02 My own custom ones last year that I've kind of gone back and forth.
03:08 Pretty much dynamic gold X100, same Z-Cord grips.
03:12 All my irons are a quarter inch short.
03:14 I don't know why.
03:15 I've done it my entire life.
03:16 Why change now?
03:17 I've got three wedges aside from my pitching wedge.
03:20 I've got a 60, a 55 degree, which is a 56 bent down.
03:24 And then I've got a 50 degree bent up to a 51.
03:30 Swing weight on my 60 degree is a little lighter than normal.
03:33 I just like the speed I can deliver through chip shots without feeling like it's going
03:37 to be too heavy for the ball to go too far.
03:40 Same thing.
03:41 Everything's about a quarter inch short.
03:43 Plus 400 iron shafts in my wedges.
03:47 But nothing else.
03:48 Nothing crazy on the grind.
03:49 I use the Tiger Woods grind on my 60 degree.
03:52 And then some pretty basic wedge grinds on the 56 and 50.
03:57 These are the TaylorMade MG4s.
03:59 So the newest model out here.
04:02 Raw finishes, great grip on the face.
04:05 They're fantastic.
04:06 Yeah, I'm currently using the TaylorMade TP5X.
04:15 Yeah, I've been with Adidas since I turned professional in 2019.
04:19 So we're almost hitting five years now.
04:22 They've been an amazing partner to just kind of work with, collaborate.
04:26 And it's not just a one way street where they're handing me my stuff.
04:29 And I think that's what you see in this product of the new Tour 360 coming out this year.
04:34 It's a shoe that not only looks great, but performs great.
04:37 It feels like a classic shoe.
04:38 It looks like a classic shoe, but it also has the new technology and the new adaptations
04:43 that we can ask for in any new shoe out there.
04:46 So it's got the stability that I asked for.
04:49 Not that I'm a fast swing speed type of guy, but the rotation I put in my golf swing, I
04:54 want stability in the ground.
04:55 I feel that with the ground, even as I stand right now.
04:57 And that's all I could ask for out of a shoe.
05:00 I've always got gum on me.
05:01 So like you go in this pocket right here, it's kind of my valuable pocket where I keep
05:05 my wedding ring when I play and my watch.
05:08 But I've always got gum and a lot of gum wrappers, but I'm not going to take that out.
05:13 Nothing crazy though.
05:14 I mean, that's it.
05:15 I mean, I've got my, you know, I wear contacts, so I've always got extra contacts just in
05:20 case I need them.
05:21 But other than that, you know, it's just a bag that has the normal golf stuff.
05:26 I'm only a one bar type of guy in the entire 18 holes, especially during tournament rounds.
05:31 I'm really bad at eating.
05:32 I don't feel like I need to eat that much when I'm out there.
05:35 So I have one kind of macro bar and or one little peanut butter and jelly sandwich and
05:40 call it a day.
