00:00 The plane wasn't right.
00:02 We all knew it wasn't right.
00:05 I'm security for this band.
00:06 I said, "I want you to have the mechanic fly here and fix the plane here."
00:09 He said, "You don't make them decisions."
00:11 I said, "Who would be so stupid to take this thing up with a problem and you can fix it here?"
00:15 We weren't happy with this airplane.
00:17 Pilots say, "Everything's good. Let's go. If it's your time to go, it's your time to go."
00:21 Ronnie Van Zandt just didn't know it was his time to go.
00:24 And so we boarded the plane.
00:26 We were playing cards and saying, "Hey, we're flying down a pipeline. We'll knock the wings off.
00:32 It'll be like Mr. Toad's Wild Ride."
00:34 I mean, I was smashed.
00:36 Gene came back and told us to buckle up.
00:39 We were going to try to put it down.
00:41 And then some people panicked and it got a little tense.
00:44 There wasn't anything you could do about it, so you just buckled up and prayed.
00:48 We started clipping trees and then it went bang, bang, bang.
00:52 And that's all I remember.
00:54 Ronnie told me, "You're the only person in the world that I know I can trust that'll never drink,
00:59 never do drugs, and will take care of us, will watch over us."
01:03 That really ate at my heart for a long time because I should have stopped the plane.
01:08 I didn't, and that would have eaten me up for years and still does.
